Like the title says, how did you do it?

Had several people ask me to set them up with a website so I refer them to people or open the account myself and they pay me. So I've been pondering starting my own webhosting, either leasing a server or reselling.

Is it worth it? Time/income wise?
Whats your average work day like?
Do you have a partner or solo?
Did you quit you day job to do it full time?

You should try posting in the Running a Web Hosting Business (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?forumid=6) forum. Although, cross-posting is not the way to go. Try asking the moderators to move this thread for you.

you might want to try reselling, it is very similar to what you are doing already. Basically a host will sell you accounts for a discounted price, you can then sell it to someone. You provide support, billing, etc. but can ask the top host questions. So this is basically what you are doing...but you could earn more money w/ reselling and you don't have to maintain a server or anything like that.

But if you invest time and money on leased server, you'll find better results far better than reseller.

If you plan to have your own server, you'll need at least SOME Linux/BSD experience. ;) Don't rely on CPanel software to do everything.

I suggest.. that is if you do not have working knowledge of Linux/xBSD/WinDoze to start by reselling and let someone else manage the servers. You will get cought up in all the technical details if you try and do it yourself and loose the ability to do what you are doing right now..

I am a reseller proud of it,...I dont have to worry about so much stuff and until I get 50 customers I wont worry about getting my own server...
