I'm just wondering why hosts don't use an email list with all their cliants on it. IE. when you host a nw site simply add that eail to this list, and when something major happens or you ned to inform everyone of something you just send one email that goes to all your cliants, I know that when I bought hosting form a company were everyone turned out to be screw ups, and the company turned out to be a fraud, you know who you are, I still have not gotten my refund! they never let anyone know what was happening, and at the time I coulnt help but think that a mass email would have helped. but u this case they didnt want to let us know what was goin on, as the rapist doest tell the woman in advance, the murderer doesnt tell his victom and the conman, desnt tell his mark he is about to be a mark. sorry to get off subject, for you lagit hosts, does this seem like a good idea?
Thank you

We do.
We use it to keep customers informed of new features, planned maintenance, etc. This is also why we require that the email address we keep on file is NOT attached to the domain name of our customers' accounts.
I think most hosts do this. Someone correct me if I'm wrong?

2 different things there....
I know our company does keep Email list on an excel file... but as far as a Email list on a server goes there is a slight problem with that.
Most companies would use the email list management software in their server, so what good does it do to have it sit on a server and then your site goes out, and you cant email a person since your list is not accessable.
Funny isnt it... though there are a lot of hosts that do that.

I would hope that all their eggs aren't in one basket, like that!

There are some I know do that fore sure... and I hate to name the UK one that does....
The way you can tell that they do is....
you dont get an Email from them until their site comes back up... even if its days later
hmm, got to agree, this is something i have always wondered about. so far in my experience with various related-subject companies (hosting, isp...), i have yet to experience the state of Being Informed When S*** Happens :)
The first place i look when things don't seem to be working is the homepage of the company's website. i dunno why people don't just put a notification there, it would save them a lot of wasted time answering phone calls and emails from clients, i should think. but the only place i've seen with a system update notifier on the index page of their website is inetflex.com. some places have a page for system status hidden away somewhere on their site, but they never seem to update them. i'm banging my head against the wall trying to find out why the site is down, and the column is happily saying "All systems are up and running just fine and dandy". HAH! :)
Maybe companies are afraid that it would look bad if they had a notice on the front page saying "er, we're down, sorry" :) But c'mon, we all know what puterz are like, and we're realistic about things going wrong. The most important thing is being kept informed, in my book. Mostly I find I have to email or call just to find out what's wrong. What a waste of my time and theirs!
