Hello,

I want to host a site than will recieve have no more than a 100 sites. I have been working in a Windows environment for most of my development career and I dont want to change that any time soon. I want operate a server that makes use of ASP and the ability to use access to write up simple db's for clients would be a huge plus. I understand that the PHP and MySQL setup is good and costs less, but I really rather stick to Windows.

My question is as follows.

I have got an offer to get 10 Gigs of bw for $200/month for 1u rackspace.

I have two questions. Seeing as how the guy is trustworthy and I have been working with em for the past year is this a good deal?

If it isn't point me in the right direction please!

2nd if this isn't a bad price, what kind of server could I get to run ASP and access every once in a while in a 1u case?

From to 0 to 50 sites using LIGHT ASP scripting, I want the server to at least breeze through that. There will be no use of perl and no use of CGI.

Any comments are greatly appreciated!

Aloha
I think you can do better than that for a 1u case and 10 gigs of transfer
well not sure about budget but efreeservers might be worth looking at
www.efreeservers.com
ya get 200 gigs of transfer a dell app server running win2k and after 20 months the server is yours to keep
its like $300 total

I have a friend who is a level 2 provider can get you better pricing than that if you want private message me he is located near seattle nto sure where you are by your name ??
or move this to the offers forum when ya get an idea exactly what ya need

Yup im in Seattle right now. If I bought the server it would be hosted at sitespecific.net The reason I would tend to lean towards hosting with my associate is because I know em and he already has 6 servers there and has his own class C.

As a real breakdown, I am an ASP developer who has done work with primarily SQL Server and Access. Because in this case clients will be small business's I dont need SQL Server.

If I were to host at efreeserver how would the process work in the following:

1. Have my own "vanity" dns with ns1.mydomain.com etc. I dont have another server... how could I arrange this?

2. Mail, could I host pop boxes for clients?

3. Be able to setup new domains easily?

4. Would I be able to connect using NetMeeting etc?

Hmmm now that I think of it, what would I need to do to make using efreeserver as the one stop shop for everything I need to provide my client with?

ya might be able to use a free dns service there are a few out there I will try to look them up and post em if someone does nto beat me to it hint hint ;)

AHHH the fun as you know win2k has no real email client
man it makes win2k expensive to use but asp is pretty cool

3. Be able to setup new domains easily?

I think the interface that dell has is not so bad
it is not really aimed at a high end reseller I just take care of all my clients stuff they never really need access to anything so works for me might for you ??

give dell site a try they have a demo interface ?
also there is another thread that might help.

Hmmmm... I actually have an idea. What if he handles DNS, and mail for me, and I simply host the site on efreeserver? You think that configuration would work well? It seems as if it should.

What do you think.... And could you answer that PM I sent you?

Mahalo

- Oh and as far as net meeting, I use net meeting to remotely admin an NT server for work, and I was wondering if I could do the same with efreeservers 2000 box
