I haven't even finished my first book yet....last year i was in 8th grade(middle school) and now i'm entering high school.....*sigh* it's getting harder and harder each year.......i don't know if i'll keep up with that.......:o

Luckily I finished English lessons years ago, but reading and then writing about books wasn't something I liked either!

What books have you got to do?

I love reading. There was never any mandatory summer reading at my school, but I read by myself just the same :) I read some of my favorite books in high school.

Perhaps you're just reading the wrong books. Find something that interests you and read that.

If you get a choice of what to read there are some really cool and interesting books out there. Go to amazon and type in keywords based around your interests and you're sure to find something.

Or find a film that you like and read the books that it was based on or inspired by (most of the good ones have their roots in written work).

Oh my god! You have to read? What is our country coming to!

Give it a break. Read the damn books. You could probably use some cultural literacy.

Reading is so over rated. You'll never use it after you are out of school. When you get older and you have to sign a contract there's no need to read it, just sign it. You need to figure out how to do something, throw away those lousy instructions and just figure it out on your own.

Actually sk8r boy the more you do it the easier it gets. Besides, reading helps your imagination.

Reading wouldn't be so bad if it didn't cut in to the video game time so much.

I wonder, how can school's enforce this? Usually you won't get the same teacher twice in a row.

He said in his first post that he has to write a report on the books. If he didn't read them, it would be obvious in his report (most likely).

Well, that's life. There are just some things that you have to commit yourself to, like it or not. Besides, you're about to enter High School, so it would be a good time to exercise some self-control and discipline towards your academic studies. (Although probably easier said than done for most people).

Anyhow, are you being assigned certain books to read, or is it up to your own discretion? How many pages do the books you have consist of?

Maybe you should spend a little more time reading and a little less time on this forum. You can not be educated without reading and without education you are severely limiting your future potential. Whining about it is no solution. Now is the time to start becoming a man and dealing with your responsibilities.

We never have summer reading, unless we're in the AP classes.

Even during the regular school year I don't bother reading the books any more. I'm sorry, but you can't possibly expect me to read Huck Finn in 2 nights. I live by cliff notes and my teacher's explanations in class. I'll skim the book for enough details to write a 5-10 page essay, but that's about it.

Personally, I don't understand how reading can be such a pain. I understand that you're on summer holidays and all, but if you really put yourself to it, both books could be over and done with in a few days or so. I mean, if this is what your school assigns, then there's not much you can do about it, unless you choose not to complete the assignment and then be penalized for it later.

Another thing that only adds to your struggle is poor attitude. It will only be harder to get through this if you continue to complain and agonize over it.

Or maybe you're someone that just has a different style of learning? If so, I would advise you and your parents to consult an educational psychologist. You could be an Auditory Learner that is best taught through verbal lectures and instruction through speech. If this is the case, try finding the books on casette tape or have someone read the book to you.

heh....LoL, for me it's "LUCKY" not sad.....cuz people who are busy over the summer like me and my parents that go to trips don't have time for reading.... Believe it or not, my mom thinks reading is better than TV, i disagree and so does my dad:stickout:

6am - get up
7am - go to school
2pm - school ends
2pm-5pm - sports/after-school activities
5:30pm - come home, grab a bite to eat
6-10:30pm - work
11pm - get home
11-1:30am - do homework
2am - go to bed

Reading would not be included in my homework time. Sorry, but there's not enough time in the day for me to read books when I'm in school.

sk8r boy: From what I can see, reading would do you some good. Your grammer "sux, it b like the badness!" Besides, I find reading fun, and there is still time for other things like computers, video games, etc. It's not as if you have to read 24 hours a day, seven days a week! All you need to do is read for an hour a day, not much. I do that, and I'm almost finished with a large 500 page book (Took about 2 weeks/~1 hour a night, give or take some nights). Now I see why the government is concerned about kids and the world's future!

A teacher doesnt care where you do your work as long as is done and you didnt copy off of someone and homework isn't all that important anyway. They're only worth like 10-20% of your grade.

Completely true. I took Intro to Computers last semester (pre-requisite for another class I want to take) and did about 3 out of 15 labs and still managed a high A :) :D

If you don't like reading, you won't like doing this:

http://www.usad.org/

Study over 15,000 Pages, 7 subjects:

Math/Science/Music/Speech-Interview/Social Science/Economics/Art

And compete...

I have sponsored competitions here in Texas, its very well thought out of.
