could someone tell me how to host my web site?
What is relationship between 'Web Servers", "unique Domain Name" and "how to register my site with the Search Engines". Could someone explain to me very clearly?

Here are some definitons(by dictionary.com)<World-Wide Web> (Or "web server") A server process running at a web site which sends out web pages in response to HTTP requests from remote browsers.

If one site runs more than one server they must use different port numbers. Alternatively, several hostnames may be mapped to the same computer in which case they are known as "virtual servers".

Apache and NCSA HTTPd are two popular web servers. There are many others including some for practically every platform. Servers differ mostly in the "server-side" features they offer such as server-side include, and in their authentication and access control mechanisms. All decent servers support CGI and most have some binary API as well.

A series of alphanumeric strings separated by periods, such as www.hmco.com, that is an address of a computer network connection and that identifies the owner of the address.

Hope this helps!

a unique Domain Name (even though i haven't heard that term) is a word, words, combination of letters/numbers which redirect to an IP address which you get at a register such as register.com stargateinc.com 000domains.com, etc. You are generally assigned an IP address by your host, which you give to the register of the domain name. That IP address will point to a server that will then present the page so:

Domain name --> IP --> Routed through Network --> Server

Then the server shows you the page.

You can register w/ search engines by either using a program or manually submitting them. I am not in expert in this, but to get a good ranking, you have to have good keywords/phrases and "link popularity" (a lot of other sites linking to yours). Hope this helps and that someone can explain this better for you. Welcome to the web!

Hello gabi, and welcome to the web :)
I wasn't completely sure what your asking, so excuse me if i'm overly simplistic or not covering the question your really asking.
To be as simple as possible:
A web server is a computer always hooked up to the internet- that's purpose is to run web sites. When you connect to a website, you actually are connecting to an individual computer (a server).
A domain name is a memorable word used to indentify your site on the server. For example, yahoo.com, yahoo.net, and yahoo.org all are names which point the the server hosting the yahoo search engine.
Registering with search engines (such as yahoo) is not required, but doing so will bring your website traffic. Each individual search engine has different requirements on registering your website with them. Most of them have a form (available on the search engine website) in which you can fill in your site information, and within several months they will list your site. Some, such as yahoo.com, require a $200 payment to list your site in commericial categories.

To open your own website, you can start by doing two things:
(1) Find a domain register and register the domain you want your website to be known by.
(2) Locate a website hosts (who provides and maintains servers mentioned above), and they will be able to setup your domain so you can publish your site.
Often web hosts can also register domain names for you, so if you find the right host you actually only have one step.
If you have any other questions, feel free to contact me at hitspot@hitspot.net, and I would be happy to help.
