I'm looking to find the "fastest" datacenter. Anything that is one hop, would be nice. Anybody know who is considered to be the fastest data center?

One hop from where? Everytime you go through a router you get a "hop". Unless you live inside a datacenter, I don't think this is possible.

Where did you hear this? SAVVIS is almost bankrupt last I heard. PM me and I will tell you where we collocate. We have one router hop from our servers to the Internet (Tier 1) using two OC-48's from Level (3) and MCI (peering with Genuity)

Yeah i understand that, but there technology is the best, take a look at any web hosting magazine, review, or any speed test and you will see. The problem is not yet anyway is there a huge demand for people to be the fastest and best, that's why Savvis has money troubles. They have invest quite a chunk of change into building the best network in the world.

In the DOT Com would, bankrupt usually means that they will continue to run just as normal, only they will have layoffs and cut out some of the smaller data centers. Maybe Savvis should sell off that huge sports arena they own :D

I'm guessing Savvis will probably sell their services to you cheeper now that they are bankrupt.

One of my colleagues went through all sorts of changes with Savvis recently. He's a corporate senior network admin/sys admin for a software company, and they brought in a DS3 from Savvis for part of their connectivity-they have an in-house data center.

Do not believe everything their sales/marketing team says about their network infrastructure-it has no basis in reality. The data has been massaged and the tests were carefully orchestrated.

My colleague worked with some of their engineers to resolve the various problems with the circuit-they finally gave up in disgust-took them 6 months to install the circuit, and another 6 to realize that it was not going to work as advertised. He got quite a bit of inside info along the way, and that's been passed along the IT grapevine. SAVVIS is definitely PNG.

Aloha
chances are this is totally relevant to where you are located

Savvis IS bankrupt....

Watch. This is far from the truth. Bridge, who was Savvis's biggest customer, went bankrupt. Reuters will be purchasing Bridge at the end of the month and signed a 5 year $350+ million contract with Savvis. Savvis provides backbone/networks to a majority of the financial houses.

I don't see Savvis going anywhere soon.

How competitive are Globix's rates? Will they do a single server, or do they only do parts of racks (quarter, half, whole rack)?

Mike, you wouldn't happen to be a betting man, would you?

I'll take the Savvis v. Bankruptcy deal with you, in favor of kaput.

Knowledge is a wonderful thing.

If you have circuits with them, you may want to place an order for some new ones elsewhere, and quickly!

Actually I can say with assurance that Savvis will not be declaring bankruptcy anytime soon. I got inside information as early as last week. Savvis is here to stay.

That they have laid almost everyone off, and are trimming down to less then 10 people to run a skeleton crew?

Come on guys.

Totally agree. There cannot be a single overall "fast" network in the world. A mesh topology will never allow a network to be consistently fast from every NAP. Speed will always change and will always be affected by a million factors.

My 2 cents. ;)
