Okay, appologies if this comes off as a rant or anything, but I have an urge to bring it up. I just went to add something to WebCalendar on my site, and noticed that the FDC reseller server (the one my site's on) was down. (No way! ).

I should note: I used to _LOVE_ FDC's reseller plans. They were absurdly cheap, and worked great. It was my first hosting place with CPanel, and I also fell in love with that. But then they started having problems with downtime. Then the downtime problems got ten times worse...

I've had easymonitor.com monitoring my site, and even had it monitor me months before I moved to FDC, when I had almost 100% uptime. Currently, I am at 95.07% uptime. Some hosts guarantee 99.99%, some only go for 99.9. A few only go to 99%. But just above 95% uptime?! It may not sound horrible, but you end up noticing it real fast -- especially if you leave your mail program up all day and have things like a calendar that you use all the time on your site.

Does anyone know why this is happening? The friend who hosts me's already signed up at Dathorn, and I should be moved over there soon, but I'm wondering -- is the box just way overloaded? (I noticed a nice load average of just shy of 20 the other day when I was FTPing something  ) Or is their like $10,000 server not any good? Or does it suffer daily attacks? You'd think that if they own the data center, and have hundreds of boxes hosted, they'd be able to keep just _one_ going 24/7. Or at least 23/7...

Again, appologies if I'm coming off as someone just whining about how horrible they are. But... 95.07%? (And that number, if anything, is high -- they may well be under 95% if you don't include the months of near-perfect hosting at Dot5...) What's up that causes such downtime?

Have you contacted your provider? I don't think we can tell you 'why.' But, maybe they can.

SoftWareRevue, thanks for fixing the thread.

FDC's main reseller server is over filled.

However, they said they were getting more/another server(s) to help balance the load. I am not sure about the status on this.

a load of 20 is insane, and i doubt they are using $10k servers :). If this is what the server is sitting at on a dialy basis, then they have big issues. The load on our servers bearly breaks .05 on a busy day and that is with some very popular forums. I think you'll be happy with dathorn, Andrew runs a pretty tight ship.

Search FDC here. The reseller plans are bad, people just overload those server(s). Their dedi's are good though. Once I got mine up, no probs. Up 51.5 days, no real issues...

If you want a good reseller, check out www.dathorn.com My reseller account is there, the fdc dedi is a backup/file server box. A buddy has a bunch of his highly downloadable files on there (game mods)...
