Nymix-CB 07-13-2003, 04:59 PM Can we get 5 of those accounts?
Rusty500 07-13-2003, 05:12 PM 5 of which accounts? GigaPRO, or Multi-Domain?
Of course you can -- just follow the instructions provided and we'd be glad to provide you with 5 of them :-).
Thanks,
Russell
Rusty500 07-13-2003, 11:56 PM To answer a question we got by e-mail -- to get the extra month on the GigaPRO, just e-mail support@sitelutions.com.
And yes, these deals are real... and no, we will not terminate your account if you use all allotted bandwidth :-).
Thanks,
Russell
CoolinHL 07-22-2003, 04:35 PM Once the GigaPRO sale ends, I'm guessing that the price will go up... If we sign up before the sale ends, do we get to pay only $7.45/month for all the time we'll be hosting with you? Or will our monthly payments go up after the sale ends?
Also, what control panel do you use?
Rusty500 07-22-2003, 04:59 PM No, the price will not go up once the offer ends -- it will just not be offered to new users at that prices. Yes, you get to be locked in.
We use a customized, modified version of cPanel.
Morphium 07-24-2003, 09:48 AM By modified you mean your own skin? Most do.
Also, how many days do you expect to be in business before everyone uses all their bandwidth and you go bankirupt and run off with our money?
Rusty500 07-24-2003, 10:53 AM No, I don't mean that we use our own skin -- because we do not use cPanel's DNS system, we have built various components to control cPanel via our own interface. This includes updating of DNS information, addition of hosts and domains, and more. This also includes password management and a few other features.
Please do not comment on our company or our business model without knowing anything about us. Our parent company, InfoRelay Online Systems, Inc. has been in business (a New Jersey corporation) and has been profitable since 1995.
We also made a pledge to donate 10% of this year's profits to user-selected charities.
We've carefully calculated our costs and we won't be going out of business any time soon, though thanks for your "concern."
You might consider reading WHT's rules next time before making posts like the one you made.
Thanks,
Russell
Beyond_Doubt 07-25-2003, 04:18 PM Oddly enough I was checking this out earlier today, and the deadline had passed. I thought "bugger".
And yet, now I go back to have a read of what was on offer, the dealine has moved forward two days.
Kind of odd, and worrying in a non-specific kind of way.
Rusty500 07-25-2003, 04:26 PM Nothing to worry about :-) -- We've extended the offer, in part because this post is up on WHT.
Feel free to sign up or ask any questions that you may have :-).
Thanks,
Russell
Beyond_Doubt 07-25-2003, 06:45 PM OK, I been off trying to get more info :)
Using Altavista I found neary every referance to Sitelutions was either of two quotes...
... have found that the cheapest and the best registrar is Sitelutions, at http://www.sitelutions.com/. They provide the highest quality services at the lowest price
or
...Let me comment on web hosting providers. Sitelutions.com provides the least expensive web hosting at the highest quality.
Could you help me out with why I am finding "stock quotes", obviously not from the actual webiste creators.

I did a quick search in these forums and also found a comment by zgoku made on April 19th refering to your deal of 1GB space and 50GB transfer for under $8?. And another comment of This offer is only good until Monday, June 16. So clearly the offer has been running for some time. At a guess I would say it is likely to continue for a while yet :)
Which, on the face of it, is no bad thing.
He does, however, echo my thoughts on this matter Their plans look like many of the "too good to be true" webhosting companies around here, which usually switch hands or bottom out fairly quickly. Can you offer any pointers which would ease my mind on this. And anyone reading this sticky thread as well I suppose :)
_______________
You have also refered to your overselling policy Sure, we're doing some overselling, but we believe we're doing so responsibly. Only overselling disk space by about 20%. Also we're only offering that package as a limited-time offer to see how it goes. Has this got any bearing on the ever-moving deadline? How does the usage stand at the minute; 70%, 90%, 110%?
That thread also dealt in a move to TTLHost, a service which appears (to me) to be now dead. What is the current situation? I worry about decreasing quality of service as the amount of users increases, or a sudden loss of service.
Also I see you are offering colocation (post 30th June), depite looking for it yourself two months prior (the TTLHost stuff)
Now, to be honest, I haven't looked into the implications of colo at all, but some comments I have read strongly imply its a real mixed bag of fortune cookies. And some of them ain't happy reading :) So I guess anyone could tell me anything and I would believe it atm, I would be relying on other ppl to point out any discrepencies.

Hmm, Ok I see in another thread you are in with Hurricane Electric; so ignore some of the stuff above :)

I guess I have two concerns,
How come the deal is noticably better than the vast majority of others?
and would I be in breach of the tos :)
the second one I will find out in PM's once I am happier on the first. no need to rush these things :D
Rusty500 07-25-2003, 07:14 PM To answer your questions, before choosing Hurricane Electric, we had servers at several different providers in the US. We were buying a whole lot of bandwidth, and therefore got good rates.
Despite this, we were looking to consolidate our hosting servers, and to therefore get better rates on bandwidth by doing so. I'm the founder and technical manager of the company, and therefore I was doing my research trying to find a good facility.
I was impressed with TTL's pricing. I got fairly good comments about XO and TTL, and John (founder of TTL) was making bandwidth commitments to XO even larger than the commitments we were prepared to make. Because of this, I considered TTL.
I also considered various caveats associated with choosing TTL -- the realization that they were a small company and that hickups could occur. I was also slightly concerned about XO's financial situation. After discussion with the others involved, we decided that we didn't want to host our servers in cabinets that weren't leased directly by us from the end provider. We realized the possibilities of problems like those that have occurred with TTL (no offense to John, I realize that this may not have been his fault) and with XGamer (do a search on XGamer...).
After a good deal of negotiation with Hurricane Electric and quite a bit of due diligence, we choose them. Based on our large commitments to them, we get very good rates.
Regarding your comments on the overselling of disk space; you have nothing to worry about... Yes, as specified, we oversell by about 20%. All of our shared servers have less than 50% of disk space utilized. We keep a close eye on disk space -- if someone uses the full allotment we don't terminate their account, but we may ask their permission to move them to another server if the server's getting to full. It's a simple, responsible business practice.
Yes, the GigaPRO offer has been running on-and-off for a while. It's been a popular offer, but it will not last forever. We have extended it several times, however we do plan to end it at some point and introduce other special offers.
As you mention, the deal is better than those offered by many other providers. You will find, however, that we are not the only one offering deals like this. To be honest, you may find some providers offering 100GB of transfer and 5GB of disk space for around the same price. We realized that we might do more business by offering such a plan, but we have a business plan that we stick to. We've been a stable, profitable company since 1995 and won't do anything that we know will put us out of business :-).
Regarding ToS, we have not yet once terminated a user for approaching the disk space or transfer limits. We simply will not do this. It's true that we don't make a whole lot of money on users that reach their limits, but we believe that these users will remain loyal to us because we *don't* terminate them like so many other hosts have done. We do a lot of business by word of mouth, so it all evens out in the end :-).
If you are hosting anything considered illegal in the US, or any copyrighted or adult materials, then yes, you will be in violation of our ToS. If you have specific questions, feel free to PM me.
Beyond_Doubt 07-25-2003, 08:12 PM thnks for the reply, a pm sent :)
Jimbob 07-25-2003, 08:22 PM To get this: Sitelutions GigaPRO Package -- $7.45/month (free setup), you have to prepay for 12 months?
This listing doesn't mention the 12 month prepayment, just says per month. Which is correct, this listing or your site?
Rusty500 07-25-2003, 08:33 PM Sorry -- I should have been more specific. $7.45/month if you pay annually.
Thanks for pointing that one out!
-Russell
Jimbob 07-25-2003, 08:35 PM ok, thanks
insaneGAMES 07-28-2003, 03:23 PM How many domains come with the $7.45/mothly plan, i need at least 5? I will be paying annually too...
Rusty500 07-28-2003, 03:27 PM Just 1 domain is included with the GigaPRO package. You can add domains for just $1.50 per domain per month -- still a great value considering the amount of disk space and monthly transfer for all of the domains under the account.
Thanks,
Russell
insaneGAMES 07-28-2003, 04:06 PM I'll keep you in mind, then, thanks a lot. ;)
westcan 07-30-2003, 12:07 AM This is somewhat OT, but I just noticed after looking at your url in your sig that I use your free dns services. Good stuff!
Rusty500 07-30-2003, 02:02 AM Thanks for the compliment, we try :-)
riverpast 07-30-2003, 03:25 PM Hi, I have two questions.
1. How many hosting servers do you have? I checked the downtime forum, and all the downtime are for alpha, so I am wonderinging...
2. Is there any extra cost to set up a discussion forum? For example, the database. I cannot find the info.
Thanks
John
Rusty500 07-30-2003, 11:35 PM Our shared hosting servers include:
Alpha
Gamma
and
Epsilon
In total, 12 physical servers currently power Sitelutions (many are DNS servers).
Our current minimum spec (Gamma and Epsilon meet it) requires Dual Xeon 2.4Ghz+ with at least 2GB of RAM, as well as RAID5 secure storage.
Alpha has just had some problems while the others haven't -- it's leased hardware in a data center we no longer use -- it will be migrated to the newer data center within the coming months, on a new machine :-). New accounts are placed on Gamma and Epsilon.
There is no cost associated with setting up a discussion forum, as long as your hosting package includes at least one database (phpBB and vBulletin require that).
Thanks,
Russell
