Hi all

Haven't heard much about DedicatedNow recently... that's probably a good thing :P

I'm considering them for some servers, how are people finding their operations/support? (Well, and the NAC network for that matter?)

All past n present clients welcome :)

The network seems to be pretty stable the last weeks...
Can't say more now because i don't monitor them closely...

We've had very good performance from their network as of recent, and their support has been there and has really shined when we needed them. We don't contact them that often, but when we have it's been good.

they are great as always. no network problems, support is very helpful. We requested some server restore and they did it for me very professionally and on time. I requested this after 1AM est and Rick@DN did it for me. Rick was very helpful and courteous. Also,my new server was setup within 6 hours.

I don't see how they can get better but i am sure matt always have some new ideas :spiny:

I agree, no issues for the past few weeks. Let's hope it continues in the future.

I'll be at NAC shortly, so I'll be sure to checkout the DN area. ;)

DN network has been quite stable lately. I haven't contacted support in the past few months but I used to get a quick and kind response from them.

JFYI, they're planning to include Urchin for free :D

DedicatedNOW have been pretty reasonable recently. I have set up many web hosting businesses and they have been the provider of choice. They offer a fair amount of bandwidth and a reasonable server at a fantastic price. Also for the new hosts the setup fee is one of the thing that holds them back (I don't know why, they always seem to be able to fit it into their budget, just won't). Also, it depends on whterher or not you can manage your server. While DedicatedNOW are helpful, they won't manage your server and they do charge you for any small jobs they do. More often than not, buying an unmanaged server and a third party management service doesn't work out as well as buying a managed server. The management team will need to get in touch and work with the DC in the event that the server goes offline, usually resulting in slower resolution. It often costs more, too. For an unmanaged server, I'd definitely recommend DedicatedNOW to start with, probably migrating into a provider such as ThePlanet in the future.

Thanks, Robin :)

errm...they are down now....

Yes they are...

Seems like a ddos to me - nagios reported high latency just before the 100% packetloss started occuring.

Some of their subnets were down for a short time due to a host being ddos'd. they found the problem quickly and rectified it.

Support has always answered me within a couple of minutes. I would recommend them. I wish however they would work on weekends ;) and not make us wait from Friday to Monday for a server to be setup.

Problem is how they rectify it, they unplug the box thats being attacked.
If your server gets ddos'd twice your server is unplugged and will not be plugged back in, very unfair on on the server owner.

A few months ago dedicated now was a good deal but with rs now doing cpanel i would choose them until dedi now improve their policy on ddos attacks.

After 3 months the server we have at dedi now is still spews listed and was listed when we bought the server.

I noticed that Server Matrix have ditched the setup fees; they're looking even more competitive now. I don't need any of their management but it's good piece of mind nonetheless. I prefer their network also.

Decisions decisions... :scatter:

DediNow are good. Support is good too. I was experiencing some packet loss there for a while but it seems to have been sorted now - they said they were putting in a new router and I guess they did ?

Also, in a crisis their support comes through for you.

My server was randomly DDOS'd at a different company, and my server hasn't been hit since March. It is unfair to permanently unplug a server that has been hit with a DDOS twice, there are other ways to solve the problem.

Hello,

We'll actually be meeting today about the DDOS policy, and our network architecture, which is being re-designed as we speak. We'll be posting more in our forums though, and alerting clients to any changes being made.

We're not perfect, but always willing to take ideas from our clients if it will be for the greater benefit of everyone.

Thanks all,

Support isn't as good as it used to be. Their network seems to be very reliable once again, and seems to stay stable on the long run. Yesterday a router went down because of a DoS attack, but it was backup quite shortly after that again.

So far so good..

I'm very, very happy with DN. The support is amazing. I usually recieve a response within 15 minutes, and that's any time of the day - I've emailed them just about every hour of the day lol. They provide help with just about anything. In my experience, they only time they charge you is when it's a hardware problem (that you caused - which wouldn't be under your guarantee) or an OS reinstall. Everything else is free for the most part.

I don't feel that their DOS policy is unreasonable. If a user continues to be attacked, DN has to do whatever is necessary to return all of the other servers back to normal operation. DN has also stated that they wouldn't pull the plug on the server if they were attacked a few months apart. However, the user in question was attacked twice in the same day. Blocking the attacker's ip address isn't that effective. They could always be faking it, or just refresh their dns to get a brand new one if they have a dynamic ip.

Well I am sure it is just my luck, but I haven't really had a wonderful experiance with them. I just cancelled my server with them about a week ago too. They bill your CC again after you've cancelled too so I personally think that really stinks and just another way for them to get even more money out of you. They were up quite a bit.. and the service was "ok".. I say "ok" because I tried to cancel my server for about 3 weeks and they did not reply. Finally I called them and they say they never recieved any of my 5 emails. That's fine though.. they just made more money off me. I am sure that was their intintion in the end since I was leaving. Another thing that bothered me was that I asked them to change my server name from "server1" to "host" and they.. sort of "half way" did it. When I called them to complain they kept cutting me off too. I am sure this is just my luck though. I know LOTS of places have their "good days" and their "bad days".. or weeks/months. Overall.. they were ehh. I just would never ever go back to them. It took me forever to cancel it an they made $250 off of me when I wasn't even using the server.

Anyway.. this is just my experiance. If they're good for you.. that's great. =D Probably my luck with them. Haha.
