I heard somewhere that there are officially recognised qualifications for *ix like CNE, MCSE etc.

Just started looking to verify.

Anyone got any info or pointers to info?

Dying to learn something other than microsoft os's (shudder...twich).

Any info appreciated.....:D

Yes there is.

You can become a Redhat certified technician.
Many linux distros provide that.

Red hat is one of the de-facto standards (probably get put straight on that by some:D ).

Got any pointers to follow that up? I assume the red hat official site has info?

Thanx.

If you are serious about certification, go for the Red Hat Certified Engineer.

It is not as widely available as the CNE or MCSE certs, but well worth it :)

I think New Horizons has the track, but they are not cheap :(

Ill look into that too.

Anyone got any pointers to so called home learning with official accreditation etc.

Kinda like Open universtity etc?

I'm in very north of Uk and there dosent seem to be much of use locally that I have been able to find. :(

I've got a spare PC to experiment with and I'm going to have a better go myself anyway but it would be much smarter to get some thing official.

P.S. - I have a full mandrake 7.2 CD, someone gave it to me and said it was as good as redhat.....

If all you are trying to do is get an IT certification, you don't need that. You just basically need to get some good books and you could study on your own as long as you know the track.

I did this myself with CNE, MCSE and CCNA. I never sat on a classroom.

Just study like a dog, and then go to an authorized center to take your tests.

Good luck :)

What flavour of linux is best to study? ie - what are the tests usually based on?

Want to start out with something that is more or less industry standard...

I couldn't really answer that question 'cause I don't know. I think Redhat is the standard for certification now a days, but I am not sure.

I think the tests should be just like the MCSE and CNE tests, at least the same style.
