I got into a debate about this the other day with a friend that thinks that they have it too... *and* unlimited space in addition to it.

Some people never do figure it out until it comes back to bite them. ;)

Heres a test to test out on those unlimited space/bandwidth providers:

Keep uploading a 200mb file or more and wait until they shut you down, i guarantee it will be after about 1 gb of space...

Heres a few reasons why there isn't such thing as unlimited:

A) Servers can't handle UNlimited amount of bandwidth, why you may ask? because there is no such thing as unlimited

B)If there are things such as unlimited space, why can't i get an unlimited hard drive or a unlimited speed processor, or unlimited memory, or why don't i have unlimited amounts of money? Bill gates doesn't even have unlimited amounts of money and hes darn rich.

Well, of course this is an interesting philosophical question. If you believe in God or in an infinite universe, then there in fact may be somethings that are unlimted. Take the number 88, not only is it unlimited...it is double unlimited!

Now if I could just get me a web host to offer one of those 88 plans to me for free:blush:

Well, I can believe that monkey's can fly too, but it doesn't mean it's true. There is no proof that the universe is infinite, ect. There is no proof that anything known to man is "unlimited" or "infinite".

I'll add that greed is also unlimited.

I mean come on get real, I used to run the servers for a web site, single site, that used up a little over 300G of space and around 1.7TB of bandwidth per month. It was a medical related site with acres of online information. There were around 17 load balanced web servers hooked to a Netapp 1.2TB mirrored storage device. However it was ONE web site, and honestly it would probably meet the TOS of half these unlim/unlim hosts, no file downloads, no mp3's etc, it was just a huge medical information repository (and other things) no one in their right mind would think in their wildest dreams some wannabe web host offering unlim/unlim could even touch such a web site, despite their claims.

I have had over 20clients come in from this so called unltd bandwidth providers..... They came telling me how their site moved slow as %#$^%#$^$% and they had permission problems and not to mention the server crashes... one of them had Shell and he said that the usage on the server was at a constant 15.00+ .... need all of us say more to convince the rest....

It is entirely true that monkeys can fly. Given sufficient thrust, all animals can fly.

That said, I wouldn't advise being underneath them at the time...

Try those free hosts that offer unlimited. I dont know if they still do it, Crosswinds.net used to claim to have unlimited. :)
Upload a 100MB file and link it here for everyone to download hundreds of times :)

When you sign up with an unlimited space/host provider. You are putting yourself at their mercy. Every single one of them has a clause in their TOS stating they reserve the right to suspend your account for "exessive usage" so basically, at any point they can give you the boot and you can't do anything about it.

On subject, check with the TOS of the "unlimited" host. More often then not, there are huge restrictions on what you can put up. No image galeries, no downloadable files (as in .exe, .zip, .mp3 etc etc) and the key thing is if in *their* opinion your site is using more then it's "fair share", they'll shut your site off. Just search around here and you'll find people bitching about how their unlimited host locked them out of their site. Unlimited hosts are scams.

Now, if an unlimited host wants to offer me hosting for all my Linux/BSD ISOs (I personally have 14 at around 600mb each) and keep them up so the entire world can download them from my site, then maybe..MAYBE I'll change my mind on them..lol.

Just think about it. It is totally impossible. If someone says "unlimited bandwidth" just run away from there. Because, it is just a lie...

Note: They can offer unlimited bandwidth with 1-2mb web space. But not more.

If someone offers unlimited bandwidth with 500mb web space, i think there is a limit about the ftp upload speed.

Well... if you think about. If I had the most popular software in the world that was 1 MB in size and I had tens of millions of people download it from my site every week, that makes a lot of BW... ;)
