Hi-

We are looking for a classified ads or personals script which can be
installed on our site (Linux; please no asp).

Can anyone suggest one to us?

It can be perl or php - but we do prefer a database backend (prefer
MySQL).

We have already seen the scripts archives - but we cannot judge the
quality of the scripts from their description -- we are seeking advice
as to the better quality scripts to look at!

Here are some that we have seen listed and are considering:

Atlant Pro - http://www.atlantpro.com/index.html
(seems expensive for a new site to start out with - featureful -
quality?)

phpBazarr - http://www.netone.at/no_prod_bazar.html
(like the fact that it uses php and apparently mysql)

World Wide Classifieds 2.0 -
http://www.boonville.net/newsite/classifieds20.htm
(this one looks good - don't know anything about their code quality
or
actual sites running it)

Sunny Scripts Ads & Auctoins - http://www.sunnyscript.com/item8.htm

SPAds Pro Pay - http://www.spads.com/index12.html

Smart Photo Ads - http://hoffice.com/demos/photoads/
(we didn't like the look and feel of this one)

*Free Love Personals - http://www.russianlondon.com/scripts/freelove/
(we like the rich features of this - but is it stable, good code?) (dont think this uses a database - just perl functions?)

*Active Classifieds -
http://www.activewebsuite.com/classifieds/index.htm
(this is the one we will compromise on - no mysql/database - if we dont find anything better out there: we dont know much about the others, as details are hard to find on them!)

We are REALLY grateful for any help and suggestions!

Thanks! - Laura, assistant admin

(Please post & email - we have lousy isp service, many delays... THanks!)

I've used AtlantPro and it worked great. It's very flexible and easy to customize with the template system they use.

The best part about it is that instead of running it in database mode you can generate plain html pages automatically from the ads that get submitted (maybe once or twice a day) so this way you don't strain the server.

Send me a pm or email if you want more info.

Highly recommend that you give this one a go.

I'll just give the guys at activewebsuite.com another pat on the back if I may...

I emailed support and asked for some assistance in backing up and moving it between two servers last night. 5 minutes later..."can we have the two sets of ftp details please" came the reply. Another 5 minutes later..."all done".

Now we probably could have done this ourself, but not wanting to risk losing any data and out of curiosity wondering if they'd help move it for us, we asked and they delivered.

Can't ask for much better after-sales service than that folks.

We just hope it holds up - and consumes minimal resources - as it scales up to a larger number of database requests and greater activity. I guess we might just be the 'test bed' for this code - we've got our fingers crossed ;)

All the best with it mate.

Be sure to report back with your own experiences.

Cheers

While I haven't used the classifieds from http://ActiveWebSuite.com, I've used their calendar for over a year now at a local regional guide site for two years now and have only good things to say about the code and the support.

You should search WHT for previous discussions on classifieds scripts. I remember participating in such a discussion a few months back where we discussed the merits of the support for the classifieds scripts at http://www.e-classifieds.net.

this thread is really interesting for me too! which of the above scripts could you suggest for a website with about 25,000 ads online? I've already contacted Activewebsuite and they've kindly told me that they suggest me to look for another script coz of the size and the traffic my site makes. thanks a lot!

If you have a classified ads system of 25,000 ads, I'm impressed.

As much as , I'd have to recommend one of the more expensive Classifieds scripts at e-classifieds.net - I'm talking about the Professional ($349), Commerce ($699) or the Premium ($999). I own the Premium edition and while I was unhappy with their support (I thought it could be better and more friendly for $1000), their script is well-written and works very well.

I'm not sure where you are located, but if you are in the USA and you actually get visitors to pay for their ads, I think you'd be better off joining one of the commercial classifieds networks that serve newspapers like the AdOne network (AdOne.com) or PowerAdz (PowerAdz.com).

Hope that helps. PM me if you want to ask me any questions about e-classifieds.

I have used Active Classifieds for a while. It's such a good program if only it has a database backend like MySQL instead of flat text. For personal or small site, I highly recommend Active Classifieds. Blend nicely with their Active Calendar.

I've been looking to replace my e-classifieds.net Premium system.

I have been looking strongly at NetClassifieds at

http://www.scriptdevelopers.net/

It looks like a fully developed classified ads system at a decent price. And it seems to be building a little community that develops hacks and supports the product strongly, too.

Wow, a 3+ year old thread! Where did you folks find this one? And BTW, where is Honu?

You won't go wrong using it. IMHO NetClassifieds is one of the best classifieds scripts of it's type, but then again I could be biased since I am the original founder of that company.
