Dialtone/Interland recently sent (admittedly) a large amount of traffic to a large number of customers. Read about it hear:

Then they bill their customers for overcharges on traffic they were responsible for sending in the first place. Now, many customers are having trouble getting their money back. Some only getting $15 for overcharges of over $300! My question is, did any DT customers in this forum manage to get more than $15 back from DT?

Is DT having financial troubles?

If they said that they wouldn't bill you, and they did, send a copy of the ticket/email where they said that to their billing department, and they hopefully will straighten it out. It was internal traffic, but it didn't have to be sent by them - it could have been a very strange local DDOS attempt (or something else).

Interland doesn't have a terribly good reputation for such a large company. I don't see where you'd think that they're having financial troubles, this seems like a simple mistake.

Did that...didn't work. I got $15 out of it.

The explanation they gave me was that the bandwitdth spike is a result of a network attack causing a network wide convergence affecting the bandwidth on each port on a particular vlan. They went on to say that the "broadcast" would be counted by the charts and subtracted by the billing system. Something that didn't happen.

It may be a simple mistake, but as nearly as I can tell, it is a simple mistake that has impacted quite a few customers. Being such a large compay, I wouldn't think they'd be making such 'simple' mistakes. I also wouldn't think they'd be having financial troubles, but some have speculated this is an attempt by them to get more money...hoping that some people won't notice the charge or by not crediting people the full amount back.
