XTStrike 07-25-2001, 03:44 AM refer to this boards history, thanx *bad language on hold* PS: if you sign up with them, DONT come back here complaining about their crap service, you deserve all the crap service get when you are stupid enough to give them your credit card number. XTStrike 07-25-2001, 04:25 AM yeah, sorry, i just feel so strongly about how badly ***** sucks !! may sound a little harsh, but hey, if it is harsh enough to make people stay away then im happy with it !! avara 07-25-2001, 05:57 PM I know saying this might not be popular, but ***** certainly are not the worst host out there. Server up time is good, support could be better but it's certainly there, etc. And they won't suddenly disappear like Tacid Blue did. All that said, you'll be able to find much better value (and better service as well!) by browsing this forum. determinist 07-25-2001, 06:23 PM This :look: is what you see now, after you sign up you see this :dgrin:, eventually this will be what happen to you :crying: kickster 07-25-2001, 08:21 PM LOL :) I am sure there are hosts worst than CI. I have also heard of some happy clients. Crabby 07-25-2001, 09:31 PM Originally posted by kickster I have also heard of some happy clients. (Rare species) [/B] I have had a shared account with ***** since January 2000. Have experienced great uptime and have had swift and positive response from the (very) few service issues I have had. I started a monitoring service for all of my sites in April and CI has had better up-time than my accounts with Vservers (HostPro) and XO. Only one outage of 11 minutes in the last three months. BTW - my site with CI is a travel/destination site with 50,000+ unique visitors per month. Also, I have recently leased a dedicated RaQ4 with Rackshack and have had only one issue - quickly resolved - and 100% uptime for the five weeks. If it remains reliable I will eventually move all of my XO stuff and some of my Vservers sites to the RaQ. Am I Lucky, or what? -or just a Rare Species? Cheers... (Rare species) I am also looking for a host and ***** is one of the ones I am looking at. It seems they are responding to all the criticism about them because I am reading more positive news about them all the time on the message boards. I'm like everyone else, I need a low price with a ton of features, but I don't think I trust companies that just got into business. ***** has been around the block and looks like they have overcome their problems. Am I wrong on this? Korg korg@WildMutant.com edude 07-27-2001, 11:23 PM I dont think that was very appropiate, he is a new user, its best to explain to me why, and not attack him by the comment of posting back here. XTStrike 07-28-2001, 04:23 AM Well I gotta admit, I signed up with them a few months back and it sucked more than... well... everything. Id not have said such a comment on a company if i didnt think it were warranted. I mean, I couldnt even cancel my account when i wanted to cos their web site was down (so was my server), lmao And support, if you have a question that they have listed in their knowledgebase (FAQ) then they will resolve it, anything beyond "lets reboot thecomputer and see if that works" and theyre stuck !! I mean, I signed up with them with RH7 on my server, they wouldnt support me, and REFUSED to add a domain to their DNS servers, I mean, what do i do?, make my own DNS? id prefer not to. now you see why my feelings travel so strongly, I do this to no other host except *****, because they suck the most out of everyone i have ever used. http://www.badwebhost.com speaks for its self !! maybe I should point this out to people aswell. Better Business Bureau: "Based on BBB files, this company has an unsatisfactory record with the Bureau due to unanswered complaints. " I could go on for pages, but other web sites like the one i list above does a good enough job of voicing what I experienced/ exci 08-01-2001, 07:04 PM as far as using a faq.. that's not true. They just don't train for more than oh let's say about 3 days. As far as using rh7, that's not an os they support. They use another ver. of rh that's heavily modified. But they should have added you into their dns.. supposed to anyways. i'm probably going to be sued now for releasing some trade secrets or something oh well, anyways.. i personally would not reccomend this web host to anyone that doesn't have time, patience and money. If you have those three things, then ci is the place to be. Is there a forum for ex employees of bad web hosting companies? markblair 08-01-2001, 11:48 PM Originally posted by Crabby I started a monitoring service for all of my sites in April and CI has had better up-time than my accounts with Vservers (HostPro) and XO. Only one outage of 11 minutes in the last three months. The monitoring service you use, is it free? I ask this because I did the same and I am with Site5. I continue to get notices from the monitoring service I use that my site is down. Every time I get notified I visit my site and have absolutely no problems. I also can receive e-mail without a problem. I have called up friends after just receiving a notice and they can access my site. The point is, if you use a free service you cannot be guaranteed that #1 they check your site consistantly and #2 they are accurate. The service I use is free and will probably be cancelled since it is a waste of time. BTW, I did have Site5 check their servers and the only time they were down was during a reboot in the middle of the night after a system upgrade. It lasted only 10 minutes. Just thought this may help... WildWayz 08-02-2001, 04:17 AM My experiance with ***** was bad too. I got a dedicated server from them in December, and it was up and down a lot. I wanted to install PHP4 on it, but because of their custom build of RedHat 5.2, it was impossible to install it so in February I opted to get them to reset the server with RedHat 6.2 on it. They agreed to install all the latest versions of Apache, MySQL, PHP for me. When I got the email saying it was done, I logged into the server only to find nothing there other than the default RH6.2 installation. I had to install all the software myself, and they refused to help at all. To top it all off, 2 of my IPs were pointing to other sites at ***** and not sites on my server, which ***** denied for 2 weeks. They even wanted me to PAY them to fix their error. I told them to piss off, and after another 2 weeks they agreed it was a problem their end, but the only way to fix it was to change the IPs for a new block of 16. So I agreed, and warned those sites with IPs that they would be changing IPs. All was fine again, until 1 week later when I woke up and all my users were saying they couldn't access their sites, so I logged onto the server and saw that in the night, one of their techs went in and re-assigned all my IP addresses without telling me, so guess what? I cancelled my contract with them and got a VO server =) --James |
