Mfjp 07-07-2003, 03:43 AM in Equinix Ashburn, what do you think is worth for 5meg, 10, 20, 50, and 100,? ardent 07-07-2003, 12:49 PM I'd say they're a step above Cogent and a step below Verio. I've seen them a hair under $50/Mbps at a commit of 100Mbps. tazzy 07-07-2003, 02:10 PM Global Crossing is a very good backbone. I would say better than NTT/Verio. nickn 07-07-2003, 02:26 PM I would have to agree, Global Crossing has a great backbone. Razer 07-07-2003, 03:14 PM I would think that both Global Crossing & NTT/Verio are good backbones. tazzy 07-07-2003, 03:56 PM Yes, they both are but Global Crossing is far better. hostingsp 07-07-2003, 04:12 PM GC is better beacuse it does not have as many client's as verio... and they are really cheap for there quality I think they are worth about $US 50 to 80 a MB 50 is really a nice price for this provider intricate 07-07-2003, 05:09 PM Are they as good as verio for gaming though? trelane 07-07-2003, 07:37 PM Probably better for gaming... but depends a lot on location. They have tons of capacity in some locations, and not enough in others. In Ashburn, they have tons of capacity, so I'm thinking that anything over $100/meg is too much. I've seen them at $55/meg on a 100Mbps commit very recently. Mfjp 07-07-2003, 07:53 PM How do you think they compare to MFN? given both are at 50 a meg on a 100 meg commit. BiGWill 07-07-2003, 08:01 PM get them both... MFN & GC ;) and you'll have a great mix! :) trelane 07-07-2003, 08:26 PM Yeah, I would say a MFN/GC mix would be a pretty nice network. Mfjp 07-07-2003, 09:23 PM Yes, if money trees really grow money that I could use, i would get them all, and probalby get Level3, Internap and everything. So I just gotta pick one. neonlexx 07-08-2003, 12:25 AM Equinix is a very very very expensive DC, space in there is not cheap at all..... Mfjp 07-08-2003, 03:05 AM Yes, Equinix is painfully expensive. Close to 900 a rack per month. neonlexx 07-08-2003, 03:57 AM Equinix is about 30 mins away from me (Ashburn that is) I'd checkout Aleron, they are awesome for reliability and cost. Their connectivity is also extremely fast. JustinH 07-08-2003, 04:04 AM Originally posted by tazzy Yes, they both are but Global Crossing is far better. Have you actually used them both? Just out of curiosity what makes GC "far better" then Verio? I've used both providers and to be honest was FAR more impressed with Verio's nationwide connectivity... GC is a great provider, but a backbone isn't everything when it comes to connectivity, since geographic location plays such huge role in it all. If someone was truely interested, I'd go to a few looking glasses and test traceroutes from all over the world to each DC and see which has overall the best connectivity. tazzy 07-08-2003, 06:32 AM Originally posted by comphosting Have you actually used them both? Yes, otherwise I would not be able to compare would I. JustinH 07-08-2003, 01:47 PM Originally posted by tazzy Yes, otherwise I would not be able to compare would I. Sorry, I'm getting too used to WHT and the "This is better because it's the only thing I've tried". tazzy 07-08-2003, 02:28 PM Originally posted by comphosting Sorry, I'm getting too used to WHT and the "This is better because it's the only thing I've tried". No problem. :D Now answering the question, I would say on 1mbps 95% commit - $125/mbps would be good, then going down to $75/mbps on 10-20mbps 95% commit, on 10/100 ports. It really depends on how low you can get it and how you have everything set-up. |
