View Full Version : Looking for a new webhost
amreiff 07-24-2001, 12:17 AM Hi all!
I'm in the market for a new shared webhost and thought I'd turn to ya'll for some guidance. My primary concerns are
- unlimited bandwidth
- php - with the FTP and IMAP modules installed
or asp support
- mysql or access/oracle support
- 30+mb space
- a personal SMTP server where they will allow the MX setting to be changed
- ssi
I was looking at *****, but am finding some bad reviews all over the place. Doe anyone have any ideas? I'd like to move as soon as possible! Thanks!!

Nothing is "unlimited".
"Unlimited bandwidth" means "pay extra" !!
MuStie 07-24-2001, 01:16 AM Hi there is nothing such as unlimited bandwidth, in turn you will be paying extra for it.

amreiff 07-24-2001, 07:35 AM My current webhost gives unlimited bandwidth. Unfortunately, they also lack some functionality that I desire - the PHP modules and won't change the MX setting for me.

Aaron-Not too long ago I was up here asking about ***** too and received some good and bad feedback about them. I decided to go with them anyway and so far I have had a very good experience with them.
Most of the feedback I received came from people that were either *****'s competitors (i.e. fellow web hosts) or from non-***** customers.
I can't speak for everybody else, but I can speak from personal experience. I am hosting with them right now and I like them. :)
Jedito 07-24-2001, 08:15 AM I WAS a ***** customer.
And they have a really big billing problem.
They charge me 3 times in the same month a yearly payment. When I try to talk with the billing dept. they never answer my emails. And 1 day, without any reason they close my account, without any warning or explanation.
I ask in the chat support and they kick me out of there
For my experience, I can tell you, Stay away from *****
BTW there is not such thing as unlimited bandwidth.
You can make a search in this forum about unlimited and/or unmetered.
amreiff 07-24-2001, 08:50 AM So when I do a search and see that a host offers unlimited bandwidth, there's a catch? Just want to understand! Thanx

York1 07-24-2001, 08:58 AM Think about it UNLIMITED is impossible Nothing is Unlimited
Someone has to pay for the bandwidth. Now if you dont use much you will probably not have a problem but go ahead and pull 40-60 gigs of bandwidth and see if they dont shut your site down or charge you more $$
amreiff 07-24-2001, 09:02 AM That I understand. I didn't think I could go nuts with bandwidth or anything. Thanx for the info!
iVersit 07-24-2001, 11:59 AM I think I'll start a new advertising campaign..hehe...
"We'll Give you unlimited Bandwidth, for unlimited access to your bank account!"
what a deal....

Atlantis 07-25-2001, 09:28 AM Aaron, how much bandwidth are you currently using, and what is your price range for a hosting account ?
