Hello, do you need a SSL certificate inorder for your SSL to work?

What does a SSL certificate acutally do?

Thank you

As far as I know you do. Your visitors browser will not accept it as a secure connection if there is not a valid certificate. Getting a certificate validates that you do indeed own that domain and that you are a legal entity.

We just renewed our Verisign cert and I am already having probs with it. If I install a self signed *.crt, everything works fine. If I replace that with the crt code that Verisign sends me, then Apache gets an error trying to startup...no clue why. I followed the intructions exactly as shown on http://www.verisign.com/support/install/index.html

Anyone know the answer as to why this micht not be working? Or do I have to wait till next year for Verisign to get back to me?

Sorry I missed your ICQ earlier, I know why this is. Check your ICQ. And, hey, stop the cynical remarks about me here, people will think you're serious and I'll have to start stalking you!
