Is ubersmith sponsoring the forum? and if so how much are they paying, because we might be interested in doing that as well.

Ubersmith is providing a dedicated server and free bandwidth for their ad.

I suppose voxel.net is the same company than? As it says hosted by voxel dot net at the bottom of the page.

Yes, Voxel.net owns Ubersmith.

But a free dedicated server and bandwidth just for that advertisement? Wow!

It must be effective to actually get them the free server? But just how effective is it?

I'm not sure if it's so much the little logo at the bottom. It's also something they can use as part of their sales pitch... "We're good enough to host the biggest hosting forum on the 'net..."

Is it just me or was my post modified to say ubersmith instead of voxel.net, if it was i understand why people are so upset around, I thought i remember saying voxel.net, while its not that big of a deal, if mods are going around modifying posts without notifying the users thats inapprop.

Yeah - It would be good branding.

If you had answered "Voxel.net is providing a dedicated server and free bandwidth for their ad.." well, it wouldn't have made much sense, even considering the relationship between the two, unless you'd also explained that relationship.

I think I remember you saying voxel.net. Oh well. :D

Yes, I would be interested to know how many hits that brings them. They are also talked about a lot on this board now. I'm sure that brings a bunch fo hits in.

I think cbaker17 is right when i first saw this post i it said Voxel.net. As Ubersmith is just there software so would not make much since to say Ubersmith is hosting the site.. I could be wrong but oh well..

Its no wonder people are pissed at the mods, ill be talking to chicken and matt about this, its not that big of a deal, but its not the first time either, there is never a reason for a mod to edit a post without explaining why, its apparant. the advertisers come before the users, something i dont plan to stick around an experience.

I know very well what ubersmith is, and it makes no since to say ubersmith as voxel.net is the company thats hosting it not ubersmith, ubersmith is simply a product of voxel.net

If your going to edit a post at least do it for a good reason.

I mean, if a moderator thought that the traffic should be going to ubersmith.com, and your post said voxel.net, why not just follow up to explain that?

I didn't edit it so don't look at me :) I'd suggest emailing the mods to see if someone changed it. Although on the other hand, you might have typed Ubersmith by accident.

I think I distinctly remember cbaker's post as voxel dot net.

Mmm this will turn out to be quite interesting!!!

I certainly didn't change it, but if someone else did, then I'm not impressed at all. I really see no sane reason at all to change/edit posts on this sort of stuff.

Charles, if you have any qualms etc. please e-mail me at bummer@mailandnews.com directly as my WHT address has run amok. This also applies to other forum members. (don't worry about the address, it's a spammy-ish address and it's not my main one ;))

As of now, I've switched the 'admin edit' option back on (switched off by default whenever a fresh installation occurs) so that all edits by anyone are visible. Once the server has been fully optimised by Matt (expected to take another few days) I will re-enable a no. of options to take the forum back to the original state it was pre-move to Voxel.

That's what I just switched back on. It was switched off originally for some reason or other (apart from the fact that it is switched off by default in vanilla vB installations).

In the amount of time people are wondering, why not just check your web log and see? It would clearly have the post number on the URL logged of anyone clicking on edit for that post. (I.e., http://www.webhostingtalk.com/editpost.php?s=session&action=editpost&postid=121631) Pretty quick and simple.

We'll research this. Please hold off judgement until I can get some info. It may have just been a typo by Charles, or maybe not, but either way I'll post some info ASAP.

Either way if you want to notify me by email, you can lock this thread or whatever, i didnt mean to take the thread off course or to rant, its just that my posts have been edited before for no reason at all and it kind of burns my britches :)

May I suggest..
http://vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=17206

Not exactly effective if the mods know about it, but oh well, even if they have control pannel axxs they won't be able to empty the logs, you'd have to do that directly to the db....

I really think Matt could get something into his pocket the next time he switches (that shouldn`t be too long :stickout).
I would have paid to host this site if I had a big hosting company :)
