Scared me off quite quickly once i was given an oppertunity. XGenesis 07-07-2003, 01:19 AM arent they still learning their multiplication table and how to divide big numbers? JasonID 07-07-2003, 01:55 AM Would someone please assure me that this is still a respectable business to be in? It seems to be over run with children who can’t even spell or construct a grammatically sound sentence. dbbrock1 07-07-2003, 03:30 AM Originally posted by JasonID Would someone please assure me that this is still a respectable business to be in? It seems to be over run with children who can’t even spell or construct a grammatically sound sentence. You don't honestly believe they'll be in business for long do you? whatever 07-07-2003, 07:14 AM I voted for yes. Why do people just assume that a 12 year old (like me), is just immature, can't spell and doesn't know what they're doing? I know why, because of the minority which enter hosting and make others sound bad. Stereotyping. Before I enter, which I plan on doing soon (I have already purchased a reseller account), I spent more than a year of research for everything. What I need, serious pricing (no unlimited bandwidth or $1/month servers) and what customers want. Good support, reliable servers, understandable responces and much more. I enjoy working on websites, and feel this is a great thing (webhosting). I created my first website at age 8 (1999), and have since mastered HTML, PHP and MySQL, and graphics. I don't like the term 'kiddie host', it makes under 18s sound just, so young, immuture....I don't spend my life 24-7 on computers. I do have a life, and feel being with friends builds not only happiness for me, but I'm less stressed when dealing with customers. I have 3 clients for hosting currently :), and make them all aware of my age. I don't want them to be mislead. For business, I had to do a lot of research for age requirements and such. I learnt that whilst under 18, as long as I earn no more than $130 a week, it doesn't need to be registered. When it grows (my business), I hope that it will need to be registered. I'm proud to be 12, and feel that hosting is fun, but not the career I want in say, 10 years. I'd like to deal with webdesign or images then. Under 18s which are reliable: www.yupapa.com - Responsible and friendly www.trexine.net - This is me, and I hope that I am reliable. There are more, but unfortunately I can't remember the urls. Maybe I can post later. my_forum_id 07-07-2003, 07:20 AM Whatever . . . . However unfair it may seem (most things seem pretty unfair when you're 12 :D - sorry low blow) you ARE immature - that's a simple fact. No-ones saying you're stupid or incapable, from your post you don't sound either, however 12 year olds should NOT be in business - especially a business where other people rely on your for their livelihood. If you're doing it as a learning experience or offering to family and friends that know the score then I applaud you and wish you well - however if your going to part some unwitting businessan from his money then that's just plain wrong. Best of luck with it all ! Vortex-Steve 07-07-2003, 08:09 AM I don't spend my life 24-7 on computers. I hope you have someone else in your business that will plan to be online this much then! I am up most nites till about 5 or 6 am, then someone else takes over and does the hours during the morning while I get some sleep. I wake up early afternoon then take over again. It takes a lot of communication between us to make sure there is always someone around! Being 12 you are going to have at least 5/6 hours during the day where you are at school, and also I cant see you staying up till 5am each nite. You are going to need probably 1 or 2 other people that are going to be covering support. Or at least make sure you tell customers that there could be a long wait between responses. NickRac 07-07-2003, 08:14 AM 16 years here ;-) although I no longer run a host I used to in my father's name, mde a profit, started getting overloaded in school, sold it. |
