Thanks Linux: UNIX in a Nutshell PHP: Teach Yourself PHP in 24 hours Both books provide decent coverage of basic and intermediate concepts. Both books also serve pretty well as references. A word of advice on book buying. Don't buy a book unless it has a great index and enough material that would make it worthwhile as a reference. You will only read the book cover to cover once or twice, but you will want to look stuff up in it all the time. If you cannot find it because the index stinks, or because it simply isn't there, then you wasted your money. Also I suggest Linux server or Redhat server, its something along those lines, dont know if you need it but it kinda teaches you ftpd programs, ssh, apache, sendmail, has a little bit of everything, nothing in depth. I recomend flipping through it first. chuckt101 12-28-2001, 09:12 PM Originally posted by davidb I kinda suggest the linux bible, I used it as a reference until I lost it. Linux Bible ;) BC 12-28-2001, 09:48 PM Have a look at http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=30066 For PHP, I recommend Kevin Yank's Building a DB-Driven site with PHP/MySQL (available at http://sitepoint.com/books/?bookid=PHPMSQL). I have a copy of it myself and have to say it's well-written, has excellent PHP and MySQL command references and very, very useful. Highly reecommended.
