www.YojnaIndia.com offers virtual hosting for cheap prices with a 250 GB transfer per month (15$ for 100 MB - Linux). After a lookup at netcraft.net, it seems that this company has dedicated servers at Colossus Networks. When I went to the colossus.net website, the allocation for each server is only 250 GB. Then how can YojnaIndia offer shared hosting packages with 250 GB transfer ?

answer: they can't, what they are doing is betting that you will never use that much and even if you do, their other customers probably will not(otherwise they would go out of business)
Math:
Hosting company pays $300/mo. per server (250GB bnd)
Company signs up 250 people @ 15/mo.
Company gains $3,750/mo.
If users only use 1GB each(normally less) host expands
If users use combined of 1 Terrabyte, host is charged per extra GB over limit(usually $2.50/GB in blocks of 20 or more) so host spends $1,875 on extra bandwidth...and still expands...
HOWEVER, if EVERY client uses 250GB, then host will owe NOC $155,625 and host "disappears" heh.

Most websites do not even cross 500MB of datatransfer
per month. Even most of the transfer done by these small sites is for email.
As many have said, these hosts just take a gamble ;)
Colossus.net seems to be a favourite with many Indian hosts.
Many hosts also take a gamble on diskspace and squeeze a lot of sites on one server (Which is often a low end one with cheap components, IDE drives etc.).
Earlier this was not much of a problem because 95% of sites had little or no visitors. Nowadays many sites are visited though the number of visitor may be small.
All it takes is for one site on these servers to get 20-30
concurrent visitors to slow down speeds to a crawl.
Serious hosts will not take too much of a gamble.

250 GB per month!!! Even if they offer it can their server handle the load? Imagine 10 users on the servers are using the 250 GB per month!!!

I really like your point of view :D
I know in this business overselling is the key to success, but 250GB ??????? GIVE ME A BREAK !!!

I just checked their site and I cant find 250 GB traffic. Instead I see Unlimited Site Traffic!

Its not a typo...and their website does not contain much details. When I requested more details from them, I received the brouchure (attached in my previous post), which clearly says 250 GB Transfer/month for all packages including Shared hosting.
