Hi,

I installed webalizer 2.1 on my Raq 4 and it is running fine. My problem is Referrer Stats. I do get some there now, but they are all my domain. ex. www.mydomain.com/page1/
How Can I get it to tell me which page the visitor came from prior to my page, ex. YAHOO, ALTAVISTA, etc....

Thanks

Did you make shure to compile it with reverse DNS lookup enabled? :)

Of course the reverse DNS lookup is disabled if you are installing it from a package which has it disabled in the package. Read the install instructions or the Webalizer manual for more info or search for a package which comes with this feature enabled if you don't want to compile it on your own. ;)

OK , I just got confirmation that the version I installed does have DNS lookup enabled! I got it from http://cobalt-aid.sourceforge.net/files/
Any other ideas?

Hmmm, just can't think of anything :homer: . But strange anyway . I used the same version on several Raq's and all stats are generating nice.
You might have reverse lookups disabled in your httpd.conf

Um. I don't think reverse DNS would have anything to do with referer stats. The referer info is supplied by the user's browser as a complete URL -- it's the user's own hostname (not the referer) that is revealed by reverse DNS.

This may be a long shot, depending on how much traffic we are talking about but . . . If you are getting referer info and it is all from internal links, perhaps all your users are arriving at your site by typing the URL into the browser's address bar (and therefore have no other referer) -- that is, maybe the stats are actually accurately reflecting that no-one is arriving at your site by clicking on links at other sites. In any case, you should find evidence that this is not the case before pursuing other explanations -- have you looked over the site's raw logs? If they show referers from other sites, then you have a problem with webalizer. If they don't, then there's no problem with webalizer (but maybe with your logs?)

Here's a test to try: Make a link yourself from another site to a site on this server. Go to that page and click on the link. Now there should be an entry in the logs with that page as the referer. If there is not such an entry, then there is a problem with how your logs are generated. If there is such an entry, then wait until the next time webalizer updates. If that page does not show up in webalizer's referers, then there is a problem with webalizer.
