View Full Version : hostcrawler
samuk 07-22-2001, 03:06 AM Hello,
I have recently aquried all rights to http://www.hostcrawler.com - A very popular web hosting directory. This website recieves alot of traffic.
HostCrawler is a web hosting directory. If anyone would be interested in purchasing all the rights to the name/design/coding/content etc. Please contact me at samuk@mypad.com or 801-865-6573 - I am sure that we can work something out.
Regards
RackMy.com 07-22-2001, 09:57 AM Didn't I read somewhere that these guys ripped off FindWebSpace.com's design or something like that?
samuk 07-22-2001, 02:31 PM Findwebspace.com? I'm not sure. They don't look the same to me.
Lonny 07-23-2001, 12:50 AM What's the traffic on that site?
samuk 07-23-2001, 03:49 PM HostCrawler serves aprox. 60,000 unique visitors per month.
samuk 07-23-2001, 03:51 PM Oh, anyone who purchases this, it also comes with a free NT dedicated server by dedicatedhosting.com. 6GB, fast, etc. Just as long as you keep the powered by button on the page, they give us a free server, and we can transfer our contract with them to a new owner no problem.
Lonny 07-23-2001, 03:53 PM How much do you want for it?
samuk 07-23-2001, 04:47 PM Well, give me a bid. I've gotten a couple offers, and I'll see where it goes. Remember, you will get the NT dedicated server with the site upon sale.
Lonny 07-23-2001, 08:00 PM Well, what is the minimum bid? I just need something to start from..
RackMy.com 07-23-2001, 09:24 PM Can we see the logs to show the 60,000 Uniques?
MCHost-Marc 07-23-2001, 10:50 PM Why are you selling it if you just acquired it? Anyways, i *might* be interested if you can show the log files.
samuk 07-24-2001, 12:28 AM Yea, sure, I can send the log files for the past two months or so to anyone interested.
I am selling this because while, I thought I could handle it. I can't. To tell you the truth, I thought it would be little upkeep with alot of money coming in through advertising. Not at all. There is tons of upkeep. People spamming the database constantly, having to negotiate prices for advertising with people every day almost etc. I am a one man show, can't handle the upkeep. Anyone interested in viewing the log files, just drop me an e-mail, and I will send them over. There just the generic server log files. Wusage.
Regards.
samuk 07-24-2001, 12:31 AM Logus,
There is no minimum bid really... The highest bid I have recieved as of yet is a small downpayment of $6000, with recurring fees of $99/month. While I am not sure if this is legitimate or not yet. I will be looking into it further. I will let you all know the status of bids etc. if you wish.
Regards.
Lonny 07-24-2001, 12:44 AM I'd like to see the logs online if possible...
just email me temp username and pass for the statistics.
MCHost-Marc 07-24-2001, 01:02 AM If you can provide me with access to the log files online or offline and i am interested in it, i'd be willing to overbid any reasonable offer by $500. :)
samuk 07-24-2001, 02:27 AM Sorry guys, no online program running that measures the stats. I can post the raw log files online for d/l. But there is not statistic program currently. I just use my home ver of web trends. I d/l the server logs, then load em into webtrends. I could give screenshots from webtrends and/or the raw log files from the server.
Also to be exact, in the month of june, http://www.hostcrawler.com recieved 54,000 unique visitors.
60,000 was brought from an average of the last six months. What I was told when I became the owner of hostcrawler.
The raw log files do state that last month brought in a tiny bit above 54k. ( I Promise ;) ) Like I said, I can send screenshots or the raw log files. But either way, thats the traffic that was recieved last month, and supposedly the average over the last six months has been 60k.
Lonny 07-24-2001, 02:37 AM OK, please send me the log files of the last month to lonny@findsp.com
thanks
JBIZ718 07-24-2001, 02:42 AM I dont understand why you dont market and innovate this directory, i mean come on, if the traffic is there, go stake your claim
Joe
samuk 07-24-2001, 03:03 AM :crying: Lots of things going on right now, I cant upkeep it at all. I am uploading the server log now for you guys, might take a hour or so. (I deleted them off of the server when I downloaded them last :( going to have to reupload them from my backup)
Chris 07-24-2001, 03:36 AM site doesn't look to established.
60k hits a month unique? or just 60k hits.
Bogdan 07-24-2001, 02:24 PM Chris,
"HostCrawler serves aprox. 60,000 unique visitors per month."

Lonny 07-25-2001, 07:02 AM So where are those logs?

Must be spending a fortune on advertising or running a big affiliate base, because the site isnt very well indexed on any of the major search engines and has hardly any sites linking to it......
RackMy.com 07-25-2001, 10:50 AM James,
I was thinking the same thing! It must be getting 60K hits and not visitors :)

Also the banners on the home page are being served by www.qksrv.net, which is the cj.com server. i.e theyre affiliate ads, not paying advertisers.
There aren't many directories in the hosting market with 60K unique visitors that cant sell their home page banner space. I'm sure Logus will back me up on that.....
samuk 07-25-2001, 02:41 PM Actually, you all are right. The logs are fake. Matt Frandsen, the previous owner (supposedly) gave me all these logs, that were like, 2 years of logs, all compiled into like 6-9 months. I'm going to be setting up nedstat or something similar. We do get paying advertisers, about one new one every week and a half, but their small campaigns. HostCrawler is advertised in some places to, with button ads and such. Im guessing that HostCrawler probably receives around 20,000 unique a month. Quite a big dif. I promise that I was not trying to lead anyone on, as, I hope you can believe me, 60k a month is what I honestly thought the traffic was. We go through massive amounts of bandwidth a month, and that's also why I believed matt.
I got an offer from someone that will pay me $1800 up front, and 50% of the profits from HostCrawler for 9 months. If any of you are still interested, that's the highest, legitimate offer I have received. Remember, you still will recieve the dedicated server from DedicatedHosting.com
Again, I apologize for the untruths said by me, as I did not purposely spread deceit.
Lonny 07-26-2001, 07:31 AM I'm offering $1200.

Lonny 07-26-2001, 07:41 AM A sad fact James..
