OK, after much deliberations, I've finally decided to offer some web hosting solutions to my existing clients.

Since 90% of them are either startups or SME/SMIs, they only require very little traffic. Most of them are concerned with emailing capacity/efficiency, and their websites are usually simple static pages.

Keeping in mind the following, I've decided to provide packages withthe following space:

50, 100, 250, and maybe 500 Mb (which will only appeal to my handful of corporate accounts).

What bandwidth should I allocate each package? eg the 50Mb a/c, is 500 Mb of bandwidth per month enough?

thanks in advance.

500MB will be enough for the real low users. You can always be on the safe side and start from 1GB. The cost is not going to drastically shoot up even if they use all of it :)

Have something like 500MB, 1GB, 3GB, 5GB. Just a thought.

If you started out with 50MB space and 2GB bw and pretty much doubled as you went up, you should be fine. But really you would have to look at other factors like how you will market, if and how much you will oversell, how much you will charge for overage, etc.

yeah, my gut feeling is to allocate 500Mb bandwidth for the 50Mb accounts, and work on a 10x basis. I think that should be plenty for such applications. I dont want to mislead anyone thinking that they'll actually need 2GB of bw when they really dont. I mean, you've gotta have a really popular site for that to happen and if that's the case, I'd suggest to them to have it handled in-house.

marketing etc are not an issue right now, since its my current clients that are asking for them.

anything else to consider?

One thing you can do is divide the amount of BW and HD you have by the total number of current customers and future customers and see if that fit's into your program.

Example: You have a dedicated server with 300 gigBW/PM on a 60 gigHD and 50 current customers. Now you can figure out how much you want to give each current customer and you can figure in growth.

On an average most customers never exceed 25mg of space and 500 mgs traffic in a month. Of course there are a few that will. They will carry over the unused BW from the others so you will hardly ever go over your set limits.

I hope this helped.
