Aloha
since .com names are getting harder if a great name came up with a .net ext would you want it or would you pass for a less name on a .com
say
fasthosting..net
or myfasthosting.com
what would you take ???

Kinda depends... if the .com of your domain is already taken, then having the .net isn't that great.

One scenario where it isn't so bad: A squatter owns the .com you want but it's just part of his name inventory and not an active site. In that case it wouldn't cause any branding confusion and a .net would be fine.
A .net is appropriate for a hosting provider/ISP anyway.

Yes, that's basically what I meant with the "kinda depends."
Any good .com will have the .net registered anyway.

I have a .net I use for other stuff, and I don't think anyone's had any problem finding it. Most people aren't as stupid as we make them out to be over the .'s, I think. Well, ok, some people.

Some times .net domains sound better than .com and easy to remember also.
like simplydomain.com and simplydomain.net, which one is better?

.net isn't as good for most sites, but for a web host it's perfect, probably just as good as .com (better if it has a better name). That's the sort of thing .net was intended for anyway.

cool
just getting ideas
I feel the .com is always the best to get and of couse get at least .net to match your .com
always curious what others think of this coming more form a hosting standpoint
I always tell people if some one owns the .com version it can be hard to push a .net side of thing
thanks so far to those that have responded
