And that almost takes it right back to the second post :)

sorry..
My guess is it's the weekend so people tend not to hang around too much.. Most hosts at least tend to spend the quiet time catching up on stuff that gets put off during the week.

Well, I have to admit I wondered the same. Originally when I first threw it up there, it was run off the (free) phpmychat, which after two weeks and about 23 user at one time, proceded to kill the server. I know people liked the phpchat better, due to various reasons, but I had to do something at the time.

I have enjoyed talking with many of the members on many occasions, both users and hosts, but that really isn't why I put it up there, heh. I thought people would enjoy talking to eachother and hosts might be able to get some biz from it due to people coming in looking fo hosting.

Well, as of now that really isn't happening and I almost feel like taking the link off until I finish another site and then attempting to relaunch it with some ideas for promotion already in place. Not sure if there is lack of interest, deep hatred of the chat program, or what exactly, but it is there if anyone wants to use it, and if not, it will still be there.

(Can you believe at the time I got the new chat, I felt that 100 concurrent users might not be enough, and got the one for 500 concurrent users, heh ha, ha, ho. *Bangs head against wall*).

I appreciate acetate thinking of the little ol' hideout and if you have any suggestions, comments, etc., abot what you'd rather have, etc., I'd be glad to hear 'em. PM or email please, as I too would like to keep within the forum guidelines :D

The thing is, you need someone in there all the time :stickout
So when the first lookie lu comes by.. they see someone there who is ready to chat. Then by chance someone else will pop in and so on and so on. I think what needs to be added (if possible) is a way to show people how many users are in the chat on the front page the way the phpchat did... might get a few more people in when they see that it is busy again. :D

Anywho.. I will be in there 24/7 like I used to  in a few days and be a regular again.. been working a bunch lately on various projects that I just didn't have the time to pop in and when I did it was deserted :bawling: So.. I look forward to having fun in there, real soon! Everyone better be there.. you know how we need our hosting-gossip fix!

Chicken,

You should use e_chat it's cgi and can handle lots of users and not use lots of resources. You can customise it a lot too and could have it in the style the php chat was in. I stopped using it after u changed software because i dont like the current software.

I would be willing to donate or create an area of the new chat site I'm to be releasing soon. It's basically a rewrite and improvement of my former chat site. I had massive amounts of users and never any problems. It's a web based chat, simply because I do not like Java chats. People that are die hard java chat fans will not like a web based chat. However, it has every feature someone could want from a user and administrative perpsective. Everything from public and private messaging, to public and private message muting, you can set your own room settings, it has messaging servies for user's that aren't there, outside messaging, fully controllable HTML and graphics, public and private rooms. You can create rooms from a web interface and control them. it has kick and ban options, and really, anything anyone could want. Again, it's not Java, which I don't like, so you might not be interested, but I should hopefully have time soon to set it up and people can take a look anyway.

Hmm, maybe Chicken should look at putting an Alice Bot up. I was playing with one of them a while back and actually managed quite a good chat out of it. Whether that's a result of the bot being good, or my own conversation skills being poor remains open to discussion :)

'Tis true, a micro-CDS member is on its way. Finally someone to do tech support so I can go on vacation :D

By the way, errrrr... we need a name! Quite a whole 'nuther topic I realize. Maybe I'll run a contest...

"Daddy, how did you pick my name?"

"Well son, yer maw and I ran a contest for a 100MB account and asked a web hosting board..."

So traditional eh?

It's a good thing Chicken is used to dealing with dozens of them at a time. Having one around you can't give back to the owners is usually worth at least a few you only see a few hours a day

hehe He wants to work from home after the baby is born... I told him, "you're going to want to go back to work as son as they start pulling themselves up..."

God knows I did!! I son is a terror (17 months old). But I don't have the privelege (I can't spell this morning) of only having him for only a few hours a day... I'm around him 24/7... And I'm going nuts!! ;)

First of all, congrats chicken.. Send our best to your wife as well.

Secondly, I love children! I have to admit that some people don't know how to raise children and their child becomes the biggest pain in your behind (brats!), but that is all thanks to the parents. Anyways, it's fun being around children, they say/do the funniest things and see things so differently. I can't wait till our (me and my fiancé) time comes :D

Just wait....
Stay at home for about a week and try and get stuff done on the computer... Its impossible... especially when you're alone and no one is around to watch your kid..

My son likes..or should I say love to hit the power button on me - open and close the CD drive... hit the enter button on the key pad when I'm typing... grab the mouse and click it to death...

Before we moved a month ago, he use to climb up onto the couch, and then onto the end table...and then half lay on my desk and have his head right there in front of the monitor when I'm trying to do something...or see for that matter...

Working at home is near impossible when you have a kid.

But I love him all the same (good thing my husband works, because I sure and heck can't get any money coming in when I'm home alone).

Heeheheh, Ok!. I can imagine that being annoying after a while :D

I do hope that later I can do most of my work from home so I can be with my wife and children ( 2-4 :D ). I would like to create a work room where the children are not allowed to play or something. But offcourse, this requires for my wife to stay home and take care of the children (and offcourse! I would help her as much as possible). Anyways, I can't wait :)
