Hi

Let me start off by saying that we have a few servers with them and i find the company very decent so far.

but the last server that we ordered from them i see that all ips assigned to me are listed in spews . Anyone else has this problem and know if theplanet.com doing anything about it.

:(
ThePlanet is a great company.
However, when I reported that one of my IP's was in SPEWS, they gave me two answers:
Unfortunately Spews does not unlist IPs by request and doesn't seem to accecpt any communication at all.You may wish to attempt to contact SPEWS directly, however it more then likely wouldn't do much. Thanks and let us know if you need any other assistance. Basically, they dropped the ball. However, I cannot really blame them for that: their first answer is perfectly accurate.
I took upon myself to post on the abuse newsgroup, mentioning that the spammer's account had been promptly terminated (I checked) and I got the usual attitude but, of course, no delisting.

In conclusion, you could only blame ThePlanet for not even trying to get their block delisted, even though they, you and me know that they wouldn't succeed: it's SPEWS!

SPEWs is a pain at times.

They really do not accept much attempts at communications, and basically don't remove IPs once they are listed until tehy are ready too.

Well I can only speak from experience at theplanet when one of the blocks I was on got listed they DID eventually get it delisted. If you look on spews.org you will see that they have in the past also posted notices of theplanets delistings.

But if it is a new server they probably would trade you to different ips if you asked.

Exactly, I wouldn't blame thePlanet for having difficulty with IPs listed on SPEWS. I would however have a REAL problem with their knowingly passing on those IPs to you!

The reason they are listed in the first place is because they did not act fast enough on spammers and take care of abuse@ emails. Ultimately it is down to theplanet to take care of trouble before a listing expands causing more trouble.

mpkapadia, here is the solution for you. Ask theplanet to change your primary ip. Spews doesn't like theplanet for some reasons.

Spews isn't vindictive, they list when there's a problem that hasn't been addressed. I'm sure you already know that.

One of my ips got listed on spews a while ago. I contacted Spews they said I should contact theplanet. Yes, I can't remember how many times I contacted theplanet about this issue. The planet techs said that spews did not cooperate with them. It was on more than a month so I had to ask theplanet to change my primary ip.

Usually spews will initially list 1 IP. Then it will expand if the host does not address it. As we have all seen on the forum recently Jeff admitted they have dropped the ball on some issues. Hopefully they can get back on track. But if emails to abuse@ go unanswered, then trouble will lie ahead.

spews is a bunch of crap. Im just waiting for one major isp like aol or msn to get listed. Once something like this happens, you can say peace to spews and all the other copy cat services. Funny though, this willnever happen because spews knows better yet tons of spam come from both isp's

I have opened a ticket with them which was forwarded to their abuse department. Maybe i will ask them to give me 1 unlisted ip as suggested by inteltechs which i can use for my email server.

Then i just have to hope that it does not get listed out there.

Or maybe i have to give them more time. They are not a very small operations isnt it.

One wrong thing spews does is put full subnets in its list even if particular ips spam. I do not see any logic with the same.

As suggested by morphinelips i also feel theplanet shouldnt assign spews listed ips to new servers.

My Experiance with SPEWs

When i got my box from fdc, the main ip was at spew, cos i couldnt work out why my emails were all getting returned.

Read the emails properly and send spews an email explaining i just picked up the server. Two days later, boom all emails werent getting routed back.

Off Topic, but a small thumbs up for The Planet (IP's):

asked for IP's
got IP's same day
didnt have to move server to get them
non of them listed in the Spews.

I wish that RS would be able to this too.

How exactly did you contact spews, they say on their site that they cannot be contacted. If you have their email address could you pm the same to me i will try my luck with the same.

I just wanted to make a quick post - didn't have time yesterday after a couple.

Jeff contacted me yesterday (a sunday) and was really helpful to explain the current situation. It seems the planet is doing their utmost to quickly (within a few hours) remove any reported spammers and then alert spews, however, the listings are not being removed. So if anyone has any tips about how to go about it, pass them on. Do spews have something against theplanet in particular? Who knows.. but it looks like they are trying hard to rectify the situation.

Thanks for the info yesterday Jeff - much appreciated.

[12/Nov/01] ThePlanet.com Internet Services listing removed
ThePlanet.com, removed the bulk emailers going by the name of "Convineo Communications" who were really just spammers Daniel & Maria "Miko" Walls and some figure/alias named "Sam Lloyd."

That was uncalled for as maybe he or she isn't familiar with the place nor knew the address.
