Any one here use X10 home automation stuff? I've been having fun playing with the lights on the computer :).

I set up a three-camera X10-based home monitoring system.

I looked at it but doubt it'll work in Australia.. how does it all communicate?

Cheers,

Dave

I had one, and I ended up taking it back to Lowes. I bought it like 3 or 4 years ago though. I had problems making it work, and the computer comunication with the central transmitter. I am taking it they fixed the problem.

But yeah, had it all worked right, it was going to be awesome for me because I had a use for it...

plus it comes with a separate remote as well does it not?

I have a few x10 wireless color cameras throughout my house and they are fantastic!

I am able to monitor all corners of my house via my computer. It's great.

I have a spare PC acting as an apache webserver to control my lights over the internet :)

I like their technology but I detest their ads. They've been annoying me all day. :(

Have a look at http://www.eon3.com.au - they sell X10 in Australia.

I believe it communicates through your home wiring.

I've been thinking of getting a starter kit to play with, but I don't really have a use for it so I haven't bothered yet.

Although it would be fun to be able to control my overhead lighting from the computer :D

Thanks :)

We only launched it last week (the site has been in development since January).

The first site where a proper "design process" was followed. I had loads of paper with measurements, rough designs, etc.

Anyway.. we don't do home automation so this is off topic :D

I set one up, but nothing interesting happens around my place.
