View Full Version : do you sometimes think amout the future ?
susannad 06-26-2003, 04:59 PM and about what we will be doing on our computers ? what OS will we be using ?
http://www.randomhacks.net/stories/the-missing-future.html
just been reading some thoughts here and I must say it never really crossed my mind
X-TechMedia 06-26-2003, 05:50 PM Interesting read!
The OS of the future will have Apple's reliability, combined with Microsoft's familiar GUI and open source code sharing! :stickout: ;)
Edit: Forgot smileys!
Frosty 06-26-2003, 06:23 PM I wish i wasn`t born until a million years from now.
I bet you anything that by then... seeing how fast technology and science progressess... that people will be half robots or some $#@! and live forever.
You could probably even rent an apartment on mars or something.
And i`ll be a fossil underground :(
Cirtex 06-26-2003, 06:27 PM you never know, maybe something happens in the future and all the technology gets destroyed and we'll have to start from the bottom again :D
Frosty 06-26-2003, 06:43 PM Wonder if millions of years from now they fiqure out how to make people live for a really really long time.
The earth is gonna run out of room.
When i croak i think it would be cool to be frozen. Some people think they can be brought back to life in the future. Ha... even though who would want to bring a bunch of old dead people back to life.
Still beats being buried if you ask me though.
But everyone knows that cockroaches will always rule the planet.
X-TechMedia 06-26-2003, 06:55 PM :topic:
Someone told me once that if you cut the heads of 2 cockroaches you could re-join them on the other ones body using a bit of straw and it could still survive.........never was sure if he was bein serious.... :erm:
Frosty 06-26-2003, 07:01 PM Gross !!
That`s why they rule the planet.
rooshine 06-26-2003, 07:08 PM I only had time to skim the contents, but I look forward to reading more...
:topic:
Related to another recent thread, I believe that site was based on a design from the http://www.oswd.org/
Neo3Net 06-26-2003, 07:50 PM There will be no hardware in the future...the operating systems will become so advanced that they will be able to turn wood into a 7.0Ghz CPU :D Just kidding...who knows
But about the future....you say in a million years we might not be here.....my theory is the Matrix Theory....we will kill ourselves...its only a matter of time.
Cirtex 06-26-2003, 07:57 PM Anyone here watches Futureama? I hope i spelled it right :D
illuzhen777 06-26-2003, 08:03 PM yep i do =)

Obviously, his view is very simplistic and misses some significant factors. To start with, at the rate that processor speed is increasing (Moore's Law) a standard CPU will be able to process more information than the human brain sometime in 2010. At that point, computers will really be smarter than humans -- which will undoubtedly open up whole new forms of HCI that are not even envisioned today.
Also, I think he is wrong about the small third party developers. They are out there and they are making an impact. In particular the industry I work in is dominated by small software/hardware developers -- and they make a huge impact.
volize 06-27-2003, 12:33 AM Cyborgs will rule the world
susannad 06-27-2003, 01:35 AM If you took a Roman, let's say Julius Caesar, and shifted him from his time to the late 19th centurty .. he would adjust fairly quickly and start sporting fashionable side whiskers and smoking tobacco in his frock coat and top hat
But if you moved him to now, he would be unable to adjust for a very very long time, if at all, because the world would be just too different to comprehend. He would find it easier to go looney in order to escape from the bewildering perplexity of our world
Tom|420 06-27-2003, 02:42 AM Now take susannad back to Julius Caesar times and see if she can adapt :P
susannad 06-27-2003, 04:06 AM If you can manage it Tom, I wouldn't mind but please not 80 BC or so
somewhere later like about 60 AD, I have a a friend (http://claudia.susannassoapbox.com/) there I could stay with while I did took a crash course in the language. It would be fine if I had some money there too, I could live quite well with the central heating, the baths, the excellent toilets, the theatre, the food, the beautiful homes and courtyards
not sure about the absence of computers
