I want to run an ad for one day as a test run in a localpaper here, they are pretty expensive, so until I know if it works, I am only going to run a one day ad..

What days are the best if there is any better then other days for them?

Thanks

I would think on a weekday as they'd probably sell more copies. A lot of people grab the newspaper on the way to work, a lot of businesses provide newspapers as reading material etc. To some, a newspaper on the way to work is the same as their morning cup of coffee :D

Sunday is the reported best day. Each day has it's own specialty though. Tires seem to go on Thursday, Food ads on Wensday, ect. What section you advertise in is important too.

Just look at your local paper each day for a week and see who is in there on each day.

Does your local paper not deliver on Sunday? I would go with either Saturday or Friday. On Friday, people are more at ease since the weekend is coming up and they'll be more willing to consider ads. And on Saturday some people might actually take the time to thoroughly read the newspaper since they have the time.

Just some thoughts.

There's no real definite answer to this. It will vary upon what region you're in and what newspaper we're talking about exactly. Of course, we could always still generalize, but I suggest that you contact the newspaper's advertising department and discuss this with them. They can provide you with more accurate demographics.

Thanks for the info all,

dapon & mindboggle, no there is no sunday paper..

what about flyers for small towns? A smalltown postoffice said they will deliver a flier for me also with thier morning mail at 9.9 cents each (they said they would need 470 copies for their users), anyone ever try this?

They would be going out with the weekly sales if I decide to do it.

Thanks

Newspapers aren't the best medium for getting direct sales either.

If you use a newspaper, work on a long term campaign and a discount based on such.

The ideas is to build a brand awareness when it comes to advertising in a paper. The dude reading the paper may not order service but after enough times of seeing your ad if he gets asked about web hosting he may say "well bob, i see turboweb.net advertised in the paper all the time.. give them a shot"

If its just once, your impression isn't something that will be remembered or make much of an "impression" :)

InternetPEI, does your local newspaper publish a weekly TV Guide. If they do, that will be the most purchased volume of the week. That would be the one to shoot for, maybe even an add in the local TV Guide itself. You pay a little extra but the potential for people to see your ad lasts all week rather than just one day.

My choices would be Sunday, Wednesday.
You might do better in a smaller community paper. We have those come out free once per week.
Of course the Sunday paper is where all the big boys (retailers) advertise..at least here in San Antonio.

You might check on your papers special sections. Some of the papers in my area have a Tech section on Tuesdays.

Maybe yours have something like or a section targeted to businesses (other than the business section).

You can also check with your newspaper to find out about inserts. These are flyers you have printed and then the paper inserts them in their paper for delivery. It might be a reasonable way to get your name out there.

Another way would be to post a job opening in the Employment section. It may not bring in targeted traffic, but it might be worth it if the price is affordable.

Not only would it bring in some traffic, you could receive a few dozen or more resumes that you could file for later.

An example ad I would create would read:

Need sales/support reps for fast growing hosting company. Visit ResellerHosting.ws (http://www.resellerhosting.ws) or email us your resume at jobs@resellerhosting.ws

I believe that on Sunday a lot of newspapers have a larger paper. This is also supposed to be the most read & most sold paper.

I wouldn't be suprised if you had to pay more for an ad on Sunday.
