When someone is banned from WHT, do they get banned from the #WHT IRC channel, or is that still operating as a seperate entity?

Thanks

The rules here are not the same as the rules there. So . . . . .

OK, thanks, that's what I thought. Just making sure tho :)

Rochen apparently was talking about some plans to make changes to the channel, obviously it will be difficult to block the people listed on WHT's database on the channel but I'm sure they'll come up with a list of formal rules and proper operators.

Right now as it stands, the rules are the basic common sense rules you'd expect:

* No abusive language in the channel
* No offers or requests to be made in the channel
* Discussion of anything illegal is disallowed

and of course everyone is expected to obey the network rules that are displayed when they first login to irc.ev1.net

Strange, UH-Matt was banned here for 2 weeks but I know he is a moderator on the irc channel #wht.

In light of:

Why would that seem strange?

I spammed every forum, posing as a customer of my hosting company and claimed that they had the best service ever, and were the best hosting company!

But somehow, the other mods found out :bawling:

:D :D :D -- okay, maybe not

Quick question - is "Godthemod" actually a mod?

Quick answer: No.

Long answer: Admins are in red on the online list - moderators are bolded in black.

How on earth did UH-Matt and AdminME get banned, in the first place?

Well, in the mod control panel, there is a link where a mod can either ban or enable a member. I imagine that one of the mods clicked the ban link for both of those members.

Unless you are enquiring about the reasons for the suspensions? But, since you know that we don't discuss the specifics of why a member was suspended, I am sure you wouldn't ask ;)?

Well, I wasn't really asking.
I was just baffled that UH-Matt got banned; let's say that I didn't expect this one.

I don't like to get involved in "forum politics" but he had been quite aggressive against some mods - his dislike (completely unjustified IMHO) was pretty obvious. However, an official comment would be nice ;) like that will happen!

You could always go to HHO and read Matt's thread about what happened (his version of the story) - that's about as close as you'll get to "official" ;)

His opinion of mods had nothing to do with it. Mods are creatures to be either hated or respected, (depending on which side of the rules you wish to sway). ;)

Here you go... I'd say biased version of events, I think Chicken's comments are most interesting in that thread.

CentralMass

I think reading all the threads doesn't give the full information, what we really want to see is the initial thread that caused the stir in the first place.

Where is that thread?

Chachi

Your wish is my command CentraMass: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=154435

and after reading it, you might consider removing your signature...

CentralMass

Are you sure that is the thread....I cannot forsee a banning based on those postings? It just doesn't add up.

Chachi
06-27-2003, 11:34 AM
did you see the <snip> ?

CentralMass
06-27-2003, 11:38 AM
yeah I did, and I do know from reading other posts that the snip was Loser. However, I have also read other posts that indicate that there is more to this. Some misinformation about UH's servers. I haven't been able to locate this thread either. I think that this is the thread that people would want to see, because apparently this is the real reason behind the banning, and the thread you posted was used to do the banning.

Follow me?

Akash

Ok guys...this isn't a "Let's try to figure outwhy Matt's banned thread"

I'll have to close it - feel free to start a new thread or discuss elsewhere (like PM or #wht)
