To make sense out of it, you need to first understand how web pages work. The HTML code contains the links to the images in it. The web browser then fetches those images. So, by the time the person has loaded the page, those graphics are stored on their computer, that's just how it's done. People who don't know what they're doing use scripts that "forbid" (they really don't work) people to right click anywhere on the site. This does nothing, and certainly doesn't keep people from copying the images. If you want to make the images completely private, you can't put them on the internet. akashik 06-24-2003, 08:59 PM Confirmed. If someone wants your graphics and html they'll get it, and there's little you can really do about it. You can 'inconvenience' people with javascript, but that's about all. Andrew 06-24-2003, 09:02 PM I don't know what other people feel about it, but when I see those 'no-right click' scripts, I instantly think badly of the products on the site. The whole thing just screams 'LAMER!' to me. I know most people don't think like I do (and the world is a better place for it I'm sure) but you might lose some business with something like that. :) cubision 06-24-2003, 09:09 PM Originally posted by Andrew I don't know what other people feel about it, but when I see those 'no-right click' scripts, I instantly think badly of the products on the site. They certainly don't "protect" the pictures. Cephren 06-24-2003, 09:28 PM Use a java script to stop right clicks. Then to give people more hassle encrypt your html. with the java script to stop right clicks. It will at least keep all non java people out. Using somthing such as Html Guard http://www.aw-soft.com/htmlguard.html Your pages will look like this afterwards even if they do a view source. ar g="",a="x8NtUWl-gmFTH|pPM7o&)6JDdR:i\"eAzrfcy9%=#!(u415n2V.wE_</0>OBvaIsj3;bSh k",z=71,y="";eval(unescape("%66%75%6E%63%74%69%6F%6E%20%64%28%75%29%7B%76%61%72%20%70%3D%27%27%2C%6F%2C%65%2C%73%2C%66%3B%66%6F%72%28%6F%3D%30%3B%6F%3C%75%2E%6C%65%6E%67%74%68%3B %6F%2B%2B%29%7B%65%3D%75%2E%63%68%61%72%41%74%28%6F%29%3B%73%3D%61%2E%69%6E%64%65%78%4F%66%28%65%29%3B%69%66%28%73%3E%2D%31%29%7B%66%3D%28%28%73%2B%31 %29%25%7A%2D%31%29%3B%69%66%28%66%3C%3D%30%29%7B%66%2B%3D%7A%7D%70%2B%3D%61%2E%63%68%61%72%41%74%28%66%2D%31%29%7D%65%6C%73%65%7B%70%2B%3D%65%7D%7D%79 %2B%3D%70%7D%3B%66%75%6E%63%74%69%6F%6E%20%6D%6D%6D%28%29%7B%64%6F%63%75%6D%65%6E%74%2E%77%72%69%74%65%28%79%29%7D"));d("/jyf\"PUk-I2m4ImA#eDIaIhyf\"PUekU9PA#eUA8U03IaIjyf\"PUeO/(gg\nc42yU\"&2ky4u6{fAU4f2kcI-jA}c42yU\"&2k&F4uA6{\"cuAwE \"y ##56{E\"2R&EwfA-AIjA_aA2Uju_aA2Uw7BWh_7B._6bE\"2R&Ew&2F&4jAF&aA#24--}}c42yU\"&2k2fuA6{\"cuAwE \"y ##56{E\"2R&EwyIPU4fA_aA2Uju_aA2Uw7BWh_7B._6bE\"2R&Ew&2F&4jAF&aA#y4}\"cuAwE \"y ##;6{fAU4f2kcI-jA}}c42yU\"&2kyau6{aP#AaA2UwS4UU&2b\"cuaP##VppaP##;6I-AfUu42AjyIPAueH \"jkc42yU\"&2k\"jk2&UkIaI\"-IS-Awe66}\"&#R&y4FA2UwI--bIA#R&y4FA2UwmAU_-AFA2Uv9sRb\"cu\"&6{\"cuIA6{R&y4FA2Uw&2jA-AyUjUIf");d("U#y4bR&y4FA2Uw&2y&2UA8UFA24#y4}A-jA{R&y4FA2Uw&2F&4jAR&E2#ya}}\"cuIA))(\"&6{R&y4FA2Uw&2F&4jAR&E2#y4bR&y4FA2Uw&2F&4jA4P#2fbR&y4FA2Uw&2y&2UA8UFA24#y4}\"cuR&y4FA2Uw-I9Afj6{E\"2R&EwyIPU4fA_aA2Uju_aA2Uw7BWh_WMp_aA2Uw7BWh_dBlt6bE\"2R&Ew&2F&4jAR&E2#2fbE\"2R&Ew&2F&4jA4P#&F4}00ggO/0jyf\"PUOk/UIS-AkE\"RU #e5>>=ek A\"m U#e5ekyA--PIRR\"2m#e>ekyA--jPIy\"2m#e>ekS&fRAf#e>eO/UfkaI-\"m2#eU&PekI-\"m2#e-AcUeO/URkE\"RU #e5>>=ekaI-\"m2#eU&PekI-\"m2#e-AcUek A\"m U#e5ekf&EjPI2#eVeOk/R\"akI-\"m2#e-AcUeOk/UIS-AkS&fRAf#e>");d("ekyA--PIRR\"2m#e>ekyA--jPIy\"2m#e>ekE\"RU #e5>>=ek A\"m U#e5>>eO/UfO/URk A\"m U#e5>oekE\"RU #e55nVekaI-\"m2# cubision 06-24-2003, 09:38 PM Originally posted by Cephren Use a java script to stop right clicks. Using somthing such as Html Guard http://www.aw-soft.com/htmlguard.html WOW ... after looking at that site ... I've never seen a worse solution. The method of doing this is messy, and certainly unprofessional looking. And, of course, you can just run the code through the java yourself. JackMitchell 06-24-2003, 10:08 PM Even if you do use Javascript to stop it, whats there to stop people from finding out the image name and getting it anyway? cubision 06-25-2003, 01:19 AM Originally posted by Cephren Come to think about it....theres actually no fool proof system. Why are people repeating what we've already said?? admin0 06-25-2003, 01:43 PM OK.. I think all WHT should know about this. what you need is something called pickeeper. It is just $34.95 one time, and jimbo [the webmaster/programmer] is so nice that he will actually install it if you can't. After using that script, and with the pk.exe, the only way your pictures can be copied is to take a camera and take a snapshot of the monitor.. Don't believe me? take a look at: http://www.pickeeper.com/ Note: I did purchased his pickeeper and @cardME script, and am a happy user. cubision 06-25-2003, 02:40 PM Originally posted by admin0 After using that script, and with the pk.exe, the only way your pictures can be copied is to take a camera and take a snapshot of the monitor.. OK, well, this is not a solution for what the original question was. This is an entirely NEW program, that supposedly replaces your web browser to see the pictures. The pictures are also in a gallery form. I don't see this as any kind of solution for a corporate website ... that you have to download a new browser just to view it. AND ... HAHA ... Using a packet sniffer ... I copied the images out of the wire. See, there are ways around everything. This software is useless if you know what you're doing. m2dek 06-25-2003, 02:51 PM thanks for everyones help, i'll guess i'll just put watermarks on everything i make. that should do it. In fact, many, like me, would me more inclined to actually try if they saw that pickeeper thing. What a waste of money... cubision 06-25-2003, 03:21 PM Originally posted by Andrew HAHA...ya anyone can still get the pictures. Yep, it's just more attractive when you see these lame attempts to "protect" images. The nature of the internet, the nature of downloading things for your web browser to display makes these attempts impossible. admin0 06-26-2003, 01:24 AM isn't something always better than nothing at all ? :D |
