Hi I'm thinking to get a server to offer services for resellers only. I was thinking a service where

Resellers can make their own plans.
Resellers don't have to handle the billing issues.
Resellers will just do the sale/support.
Resellers get paid by percentage of what they resell.
(e.g. Reseller choose to make Plan A and decides they will sell it for $10 a month, at the end of the money reseller gets paid 40% of total revenue?)

Would this be worth my time and money to invest in?
Any feedback would be great.

Sounds like a affiliate program to me?

Let me clarify this :)

The reseller gets to choose if they want us to do the billing or they do the billing for their customers. I don't think it would be in the affiliate program category with the following reasons:

1) Resellers can set their own prices, have their own private label nameservers and provide support for their clients.

2) On the 60/40 profit sharing plan, its more like if the reseller don't want to do the billing, we would do it and 40% of the profit goes to the reseller at the end of each month. Pricing would be compromised over reseller proposals.

Hope this would help....

I think it sounds like a generally good idea. Many resellers look for the ability to set their own plans with their own price. However, if I were to sign up for this program I would prefer not to have a certain % of profits but rather pay I.E. $0.05 / MB, $2.00 / GB, etc...
pay for the # of items you use and amounts. Just my input.

It's not a good idea to combine reseller and affiliate programs.

What in your mind probably is that you get other people do all works like marketing, sales, and support for you and you sit there counting money. And when they sell a hosting plan at a very good price, you're still be able to share a nice % of profit.

It sounds good to you, but not to those who join the plan if you do get some signups.

If you really want to run a reseller plan, just sell the plan at your price and let the buyers do whatever they like.

If you want to control money, you're running an affiliate program, and you shouldn't expect them to do support for you.

By the way, I don't find any affiliate program related forum in WebHostingTalk.com. Why not? Is is included in reseller forum?

Reseller and affiliate programs are different though they look similarly. I often see some websites confuse them.

From the point of view of resellers, a reseller plan is good 'cause resellers can setup their own price so may make more money.

From the point of view of affiliates, an affiliate plan is good 'cause they have very low risk or no risk at all, and no hassle of billing and supporting as well. Sometimes a good affiliate program may enable you make more money with less effort and cost...
