This morning across the tv a civil emergency was declared.
I was like wtf a civil emergency what the heck does that mean.
It was using that emergency broadcast thing.

I've never seen anything like those EAS systems here in Australia.. I wonder how they alert the public to things.

It started about six months ago. The cable TV in my little town comes on once a month to test the Emergency Broadcast System. Someone, whoever is available at city hall, makes a brief announcement.
Several times the mike has been left open for a couple of minutes and you can hear the chit chat in the office, like where they intend to go for lunch, what their big date was like the previous weekend etc.
