Hello All
I am doing some research on charities and the commitment people make to them (physically and financially).

Do you donate time, gifts or money?
Why do you do this? (Personal or good spirited)
On what basis do you do this? (Weekly/monthly/yearly)
Feel free to share your satisfaction from doing this.
Give your supported charity a mention if you wish.

I donate $'s yearly to Salvation Army, I do it for the good of humanity knowing it will help someone, somewhere in need.

Kind Thanks
Travis

I donate hosting and design services lcal non-profits(churchs, mom's clubs, and animal rescure groups) I volunteer for the Salvation Army Angel Tree Program Each Year(They need volunteers to man the locations at shopping malls etc). I have also volunteered and foster for local animal rescure groups for about 9 years. My wife also volunteer for church community projects.

I feel that my life has been blessed so I should help others when possible. The Angel Tree Program is always fun to help with. I get a kick watching the people pick out thier angel and getting gifts and clothes. You would be suprised how many children pick out angles and get gifts.

Animal Rescue is big fun. I get the help homless dogs and cats find homes. It gives me the chance to meet new people, play with new animals, and nuture sick animals to health.

I support Half the Sky. They are based out of San Francisco and sponsor orphans in rural China.

It took a lot of research, but I found them to best utilize their money. Volunteers have to pay for their tickets AND stay (and most love it). No CEOs making $300,000 a year here ala Red Cross.

Of course, that is just my bias :)

But they just opened a new & improved website and several new centers across China ahead of schedule. I donate $25 a month and have recieved several letters from the Nanny of the child I sponsor.

I am a past president of a Kiwanis Club so I give to them. I also give to the United Way. I NEVER give to a guy on the street with a sign asking for money. And each year my family adopts a kid for Christmas. We pick a name and but that child Christmas presents.

I try to give back to my community since I have been fortunate enough do so.

I'll drop a quid into the collecting tray if it's something I feel is worthwhile (mainly kids charities) - nothing more than that really.

When I first started up I TRIED to offer free services to local charities and groups and they couldn't accept because of red tape. Such a dumb world we live in . . . .

I try to donate stuff to the local community center every year or so when I do my spring cleaning. Theres a local community center that I like to donate to because they give away some of the donations to the truely needy as opposed to selling everything as some charities do. They also give to some other local organizations such as the battered women's shelter (which I had problems donating to directly).

As a general rule of thumb, I try to donate on a 2:1 ratio meaning I would donate 2 shirts for every 1 shirt I buy that year. Over the past few years of doing that, I've started to diminish my stockpile of stuff I don't use. Coming from a poor background, I tend to packrat everything until I have a replacement for it. I figure the more prosperous I am, the more I can donate so as my income has increased, more of my stuff goes out the door.

Speaking of which, I already have a partial load for this year. I just need to get back to it and finish the load. I usually end up with 4-5 33 gallon bags of stuff every year. I had 1 year where my neighbors looted me before it got to the community center. My roommate let them have some stuff I had on the patio awaiting a trip to the community center. If I remember right, they ended up with the TV and microwave but left the dresser and some bags of stuff. Personally, it actually kind of ticked me off because these people already had everything they needed including a roof over their head when money from those items could have gone to the really needy. I rarely have a year when I can donate a whole lot but it makes me feel like I'm helping someone when I can donate something.

Since I don't have a lot of extra time or money, this is the best I can do for the community at the moment.

Kind of reminds me of christmas.. I've really only had 1 good christmas in the past 15 yrs and thats when I actually had money to buy more presents than I got myself.

I'm involved with two Big Brother programs as well as the Rescue Mission. I sponser a few non profit web sites as well but I prefer the hands on personal involvement as opposed to writing a check. Anyone can write a check but a kind word or helping hand to an inner city child can be life changing for them...

our family gave some lands to a farm worker who had been with us for a long long time.....he could never hope to buy any land otherwise.......his sons sell salt pushing cart from village to village in south india.....they make a few cents a day from it.....with a kilo of salt costing maybe 10 cents.

We donate 3% of our services to charity (about 1-2 charity sites per server depending on their needs).

I find most organized large charities have too much overhead for me to donate to them or are racist/homophobes etc.

Satisfaction? Good feeling? Not really, just the feeling I may have bought some time for the impending doom and eternal damnation my death will bring.

Yes....I donate 10 percent of earning to Charities. We also donate websites to non-profit organizations at no cost. The 10 percent earning are usually to Children Homes, Animal Rights Groups, and Churchs.

We sponsor children through the Christian Childrenfs Fund.

In July we started a program where at least a $1.00 of each new Reseller accounts monthly payment goes to-wards sponsoring a child and our customers can get involved deeper if they choose to also by paying an extra $$'s a month on their hosting bill.

Well, I donate money to those charity jars at the gas station, or when someone asks for money...at those collection places.

I volunteered to ring bells for the Salvation Army...for a class program.
