View Full Version : Need 7 Servers Fast
inbuco 07-19-2001, 10:15 AM We are looking for a hosting provider that can provide and LVS load balancing setup with 4 Pawn Servers and 2 Director Servers in addition to a database server, completely separate of the LVS system.
Configuration should include,
Database Server, Dual Pentium III CPU's, 1GB+ Ram, RAID 5 Drive Array.
4 Pawn Servers, Pentium III, 500MB Ram+
2 Directors, Something functional.
The two major concerns are setup time and support. We have already gone through some pretty bad experiences with some major hosting and don't need any more hassles. We need a company that's experiences, has a good, solid background and knows what they are doing. We are looking at between 2 and 4 days in setup time if possible. A lease to own setup would be great but is not required.
Any suggestions, comments, ideas??

Maybe I can help you with something? :D
ezpzhosting 07-19-2001, 11:36 AM hey, there was a post on here recently which you may be interested in, it was concerning high density servers with 4 servers in a 1U rack case, this would be ideal for your 4 pawns.
you may be better off in the long run just buying the servers and colocating them somewhere near you. you should be able to get that pretty cheap if you used the 4 servers per 1U solution, then just get your own line.
You may even be able to get the rack space free if you are bringing in a large connection.
hope you find a solution:D
Planet Z 07-19-2001, 11:54 AM I think he needs/wants someone that has experience with load balancing.
allan 07-19-2001, 12:19 PM I think ezpz is correct...given your requirements, you should probably consider buying your own equipment and colocating it. You will be able to get things set up faster, and you can make sure the configurations are exactly what you want.
Alan - Vox 07-19-2001, 01:06 PM Co-location will take longer to set up though, you should speak to pegasus they might be able to help you out.
nopzor 07-19-2001, 01:55 PM The whole point of having multiple pawns is for redundancy. Getting a 4-1 server in this case is a bad idea. The reliability of these systems are shady to start with, and if you lose the power supply or something along those lines, you're back to ground zero.

jayglate 07-19-2001, 03:33 PM I would go with voxel on this one, they have extensive experience with LVS. THey host sites for porsche, and other major companies using LVS.
Simply put you can't go wrong using Voxel for this project and they colo in AboveNet, which has amazing facilites.
We can do this, but I don't think anyone on this board or anyone for that matter has as much expertise and experience using LVS and clustering linux systems.
It is rare for one host to reco another, but in this case, I have to say VOXEL all the way on this project.:D
IMHO
inbuco 07-22-2001, 05:01 AM I would like to thank everyone for your comments, suggestions and ideas.
We managed to find a great host who will provide us with our own rack and 5 web servers and two database servers for what we were going to spend on only 4 web servers and 1 database server. We decided to go with the F5 Big IP load balancer instead of an LVS system.
Again, we thank everyone here at webhostingtalk.com for all your help.
