View Full Version : Couter-strike Game and Cobalt raq.
joubarani 07-19-2001, 09:08 AM Hi Everybody,
We downloaded Counter-Strike Game and wanted to operate it on our cobalt raq 4i so everybody on the internet can play the game freely with others.
But the question is can we install it normally on our cobalt raq and how?
Please help us in resolving the matter, and thanks in advance,
J. Joubarani:flamethr:
(SH)Saeed 07-19-2001, 10:04 AM Go to www.counter-strike.net and download it, then read the manual. It's not harder than that!
But be warned that if your server is full all the time, it will use pretty much bandwidth per month (specially if you allow spray logos).
certify 07-19-2001, 01:37 PM How much bandwidth it normally takes?
I installed CS on my RaQ. It's very simple. First you need the Halflife engine then the CS mod. There are tons of pages out there that tells you how to set it up. Check out CS Server from Counter-strike.net As for your RaQ, I suggest having atleast 128 MB of ram. I ran it on a poor ol RaQ3 with 64 MB ram and it was sorta of lagging. If you have a 20 player server that's full 24/7, expect about 70 GB per month.
joubarani 07-21-2001, 12:33 PM Hi,
In fact I downloaded and got many files, I searched for the help file but found only maual about how to play the game. Could you please tell us at least how to begin the first step in installation.
Thabnks in advance,
J. Joubarani

DHWWnet 07-21-2001, 12:58 PM ditto to what teck said, ours is using around 90GB currently it is 68363.242MB and it tops around 85-90 at the end of the month:flamethr:
Where's your server running out of? When I had a server at VDI, pings were EXCELLENT. At 20 player max, pings where no higher than 30 for my friends and I.

DHWWnet 07-22-2001, 05:06 AM Hi teck, the server is at HopOne/Superb :)
joubarani 07-22-2001, 10:21 AM Hi,
Thank you for your help about the installation.
We have another question. Can we change the standard port of the game 27015 to another port no.? Because our ISPs on the region open only few port no.s and we can use only few ports such as: 80, 81, 443 even the ftp and telnet ports are blocked.
Do you have any suggestions?
Thanks,
J. Joubarani:confused:
Lantins 07-22-2001, 04:21 PM Hey, i got CS working brill today... it took a long time as i needed to get new copys of files etc. I installed it onto a RAQ3 with 64mb ram, and we had about 15users on it for 2 houres and the pings was fine and it never effected the ram etc.
Yes u can change the port that the server is run on.
Best of luck
Luke
AbbasJaffarali 07-22-2001, 05:12 PM How do you check how much memory is installed on your RaQ4
-Abbas
Lantins 07-22-2001, 05:19 PM I dont know if the RAQ3's and RAQ4's will be the same but try this.
Login into your GUI.
Click the little cobalt sing on the top left.
It should tell you the ammout of ram in there.

joubarani 07-22-2001, 06:02 PM Good news:)
joubarani 07-22-2001, 06:11 PM Good news:)
Can I install it in our server? whish is content about 50 virtual host sites.
Thank's
Jawsh 07-22-2001, 07:10 PM I wouldn't suggest doing so if your sites are more than just simple html files with pictures. If your doing anything with scripts I would suggest streying away from setting up anything else that might suck away their resources.
Chris 08-11-2001, 01:00 PM where in the raq do you install the server?
would the easier way to do it is create a fake virtual site and then just use that /web/ folder to put halflife and everything in?
Yup, just create a site with 200 megs or so and install it there.
joubarani 08-11-2001, 04:13 PM how can I install it in the /web dir. I have 2 tar file 1-cs_11b_full.tar.gz 2- cstrike11b_upgrade.tar.gz
Chris 08-11-2001, 04:17 PM I just installed a server on rackshack network and the pings are awefull...
100 ping for a user who lives in texas...
Whats up with that?
joubarani 08-11-2001, 04:34 PM :nuke:
Chris 08-12-2001, 03:20 AM yeah, I just did this for fun, but I wouldn't recommend using a cobalt for any game server ;p
6 users used 20% of the cpu, and the game was even a little glitchy.
Also rackshack routing is not very good and pings are awefull for most users
Lantins 08-12-2001, 06:51 PM I dont see why not to use a RAQ 3, i have been running one for a while now (since this post) and its on a RAQ3 with 64mb ram, i have sprays OFF, There is a user limmet of 14, i use the -nomaster command so its not getting pinged every few secons :)
I have had it full to the brim and there was bugger all resauses used, and no one had lag, I use 64k ISDN and i got a ping on 90 all the time and there was cable people with pings of 20.
Happy Fragging :))

joubarani 08-13-2001, 08:13 AM Hi,
We read your post but we did not understand exactly what you meant.
We have a cobalt server raq 4i and several virtual sites. We wanted to install counter-strike for limited number of users in a virtual subdomain. We got the following tar files:
cs_11b_full.tar.gz
cstrike11b_upgrade.tar.gz
and we untar them and have all the file. Now we want to know the next step, we tried to follow the instructions written in the followinf url:
http://server.counter-strike.net/linuxbasic.html
but we found a mismatch between what we have and what is on the site.
Please help us in finding a solution to complete the installation.
Also we hope to know how to change the port used in this game.
Thanks in advance,
Joubarani
:o
Chris 08-13-2001, 08:28 AM you need Half life engine, go to fileplanet and search for it, then once you got that you need to untar the HL engine first, and then inside the "hlds_l" folder you untar the cstrike tar file which will then create a cstrike folder.
once that is done, you configure the server, and launch it, use server.cstrike webpage as a reference on configuration and how to run the server.

joubarani 08-18-2001, 11:22 AM Hi,
We have also cobalt raq 4i and we installed CS on a virtual site. We tried several ways but could find a solution everytime the same error as listed below.

couldn't exec language.cfg
WARNING: UDP_OpenSocket: port: 27015 bind: Address already in use

We need also to change the game port.

yazzer 09-06-2001, 12:46 PM They now have a Quake3 server PKG file, but it's only for the Qube and RaqXTR. Why wouldn't they have made one for the Raq3&4, are they not the most popular.
Here is the URL:
http://pkg.nl.cobalt.com/
Since there is no PKG for the Raq3. Can anyone give me some pointers, or a website with instructions for installing Quake3 server on my Raq3? avara?
TIA
AbbasJaffarali 09-08-2001, 04:28 AM Yeah...Dont know why they didn't release a Raq3/4 package. I have a Raq4 and would really appreciate any links for Quake3 help in installation and/or configuration
Any help possible, avara?
Thanks
Abbas
yazzer 09-08-2001, 12:10 PM Here is the reply from Taco:
The RaQ3 hasn't much of a customisable UI,
the XTR and Q3 do ... that's why there is none.
But you could install the quake rpms from the
pkg file and configure the server by hand instead
of via a ui ....

I unpacked the pkg and the RPM installed fine, but I haven't had a chance to test it yet (uploading large pak0 file).
I also tried to run the ".run" script that is the linux download, but I get errors.
