***** has a BADDDDDDDD rep. in this forum.

And I just don't understand why theyre #1 host at hostindex.com, #17 at tophosts.com and still get a lot of clients.

I was considering to host my site with them before but the rep. of theirs in this forum scared me away from them.

Those sites accept paid advertising, unlike this one. Such paid advertisements are placed in prominent positions throughout their sites, therefore attracting the attention of visitors. Visitors click through, unaware of the 'true' repuation of such hosts, and sign up upon seeing a 'nice' site and 'great' plans.

I believe that's why. ;)

If people can still remember, Tac*dblue ranked really high with more than 90 reviews in 3 months at hostsearch. And still TB was a genuinely sucky company and has been proven to be a fly-by-night host.

That just goes to show how reliable host directories now are.

btw, I had a friend who's brother was just kicked out of ***** with no warning whatsoever. The reason? He was using too much bandwidth because his online store was pretty popular in Bangkok. Well, they could have at least informed him about his usage and not just delete his site. His business resides there, for crying out loud!

were they offering the infamous "unlimited" bandwidth deal??

their site is down every day, i setup a ping script from my line here and a friends line to make sure it was down from two unique points.

it pinged and trace routed *****.com every 2 minutes for the whole day, and almost every day it was unavilable for at least 30-50 minutes, try it yourself, its quite amusing !!

I don't suppose that after a couple years of the hosting biz, they wouldn't have made a few thousand script kiddies mad.. and now they are constantly being pinged by thousands of users at the same time, just for the hell of it?

i sent out tiny pings from multiple PC's with multiple ISP's in different countries, send out four pings ONCE every 2 minutes and see if you get a response, i have posted the batch file i used while i was away from the PC to monitor it, it is as follows:

ping *****.com >> c:pinger.txt
tracert *****.com >> c:pinger.txt

it can be used to monitor any domain. have fun

The ***** servers are not off line as reported here. I have been online there several times today and have not seen any problems.

The ping is nice but you have to report the findings accurately.

One of the things that you guys can do is check *****'s Network Status page at:

http://www.*****.com/?zone=support/network_status

One of the nice things ***** does, that a lot of the Hosts don't do, is display this information along with notices.

I don't have any problems with someone not liking a web host and discussing it up here, but it would be nice, and more credible if it was based in fact!

***** has not been down, nor was it down when people here claim it was. I know because I just got a web site there and have been developing on it everyday!

A while ago I asked people up here why everyone hates ***** and got only a few good answers from people who had sites. I also got emails from people who had good things to say.

I decided to get a site and find out. So far I like them. The chat could be faster, but the support I have received thus far has been great!

Its also funny to see so many web hosts up here complain and crying about other hosts! It makes me laugh! :D :crying:

I Dont think its just hosts bitching about a competitor, we've received a lot of email complaining about CI, we've also had first hand experience dealing with their CEO.

James, I didn't sugggest that you WERE involved with the site. I value your input though, as well as Matt's, since you both deal with so many web hosts andusers all the time.

But you guys missed my major point. If someone is going to complain about a host, they should have their facts straight.

In context, several people up here claimed that ***** was down when they weren't. I have been online working on my site for awhile and I can assure you that ***** was not down.

I understand that a lot of people have problems with C Host for one reason or another. However thus far, I have not had any problems support, speed, etc.

I come up here a lot just to read. I rarely have input but I saw that ***** was supposed to be down and it wasn't so I said something.

If it was any other host (with the exception of fasthosts) I wouldnt have bothered even posting in this thread. But when it comes to CI, 9.999 times out of 10 there isnt smoke without fire. It just so happens that this time, you're the 0.001

Good luck with your site launch, but if you want a piece of friendly advice (and I'm pretty sure Matt will back me up on this) move your site off CI, before it becomes a real business risk. They might not have let you down yet, but.............

I am not sure, but are you accusing me of being a spammer? I am not sure what I said for you to attack me so personally like this! I am working on my site online and it is not ready to go online yet. The cover page was nicer than having the ***** cover page there.

Please forgive me for not being a Web God. I am only a person trying to work on my site between my work, school, and other activities. It might take me longer to get my website done because I'm trying to earn a living, I didn't think that would warrant your personal attack on me! I thought that was against the rules up here.

I come up here to learn things and I saw the comment about ***** being down. All I did was comment on it not being down and I noted that a lot of hosts like to complain about other hosts. I didn't attack you or anyone else in particular.

I guess I'm already "suspect" I suppose because I decided on getting a web host package at *****. But like I said, they have been great so far. Not a commercial. Just an opposite opinion from so many others.

I haven't seen the horror stories so many other people have claimed to see there and it still makes me wonder if some of the people are just piling on without experience because hating ***** seems like the popular thing to do now days. :)

We've definately had first hand experience with them, they racked up one of our biggest debts early last year!

Same story here...it seems they like to use their customers (even EX-customers) credit cards to fund their scam! They charged me $1,020 FOR NOTHING! :eek: :erm:

That's a nice thing? What's so nice about it when my server (agate.propogation.net) has been down for a week, yet they say it's resolved as of this morning (meaning fixed)? Well, it's still down! The the only thing you can count on at their Network Status page, is loads of B.S.

I tell you what HobbyGal - Why don't I give you my logins for Ticket Monster - and you can see all the tickets I've turned in since I've been there for the last 3 months. And you'll see the same generic responses from ***** over and over.

While I'm at it, I'll forward you the you the 80+ emails I've received from Netmonitor365 telling me my website is down. And the one's from Internetseer - just in case you don't believe that.

Why is ***** so bad, well to answer that question you need to do a few things

(a) brew one big *ss pot of coffe
(b) call work to say that you will not be in to work for a few days
(c) search this forum with the keywords *****
(d) enjoy the reading and reading and reading and ......

THEY WILL KEEP CHARGING YOU EVEN IF YOU CANCEL ACCOUNT WITH THEM. SO IF YOU GIVEN THEM YOUR CREDIT CARD NUMBER AND YOU WANT TO LEAVE THEM CANCEL YOUR CREDIT CARD FIRST.
