Hi,
I have tried to find informations on mozilla.org about policies related to the usage of screenshots of websites within the Mozilla browser, but I found nothing. Do you know any link related to this issue or if you know what is their policy about this issue? Thank you.

Just a thought...maybe is valid the Netscape policy for Mozilla too, related to this issue?

I don't see any policy on screenshots either and I really doubt that the Netscape policies would be applied to Mozilla. I would assume there is nothing wrong with taking screenshots involving Mozilla.

I thought of Netscape's policy since Mozilla has a Netscape license listed on its policies page...and on Netscape's site I found a paragraph related to screenshots, tv shows etc. Thanks, I really appreciate it. If somebody else has more infos on the issue...

Or maybe I should contact Mozilla to ask and be sure. But hey, maybe I'm wrong but I don't see an email address for this type of issues on their site.

edit : Anyway I believe that their address for suggestions can work for me. In the meanwhile if you have any informations or opinion I'll be glad to hear them.

If Mozilla lists Netscape's licence then maybe the Netscape policies do apply. I must have missed that page when I went through the site.

Why does mozilla use netscape's design?

A bit of history...

1st there was Netscape. It was available for a fee. Then came IE which was free. Netscaped decided to distribute their browser for free to cope with the competition.

At some moment Netscape realized N4 was getting too old and they couldn't incorporate new technologies in the design, so they decided to rewrite the whole browser from scratched and started to work on N5.

After some work was done on N5, they realized that the project wouldn't work, since they had to put a lot of work on something that would be available for free. They cancelled the whole project, set up a team of volunteers, and started the N6 project.

Actually 2 teams were created: one for the new engine (geeko) and one for the actual browser. Both did their homework and eventually N6 went out... but was a total crap.

The Geeko team did a good work, but the browser team was a shame. Eventually the Geeko team decided to write their own browser (splitted into a new team I believe). Then came Mozilla.

N6 team must have realized they failed, since eventually N6 been removed and N7 born as a new browser based on Mozilla.

I've been a Netscape fan. I lived way too long with N4 just because I didn't wanted to turn to IE and I was expecting N6. Eventually I realised N6 would never be very good but Geeko had a lot of potential. Finally I turned to IE for lack of good alternatives. When I first heard of Mozilla I tried it and loved it from the beginning. Now I am still using IE for the very rare sites which still won't work on Mozilla but still worth it. Mozilla's my main browser, on all OSes.

What was the thread about already?

Oh! I remember the thread topic!

I don't believe anyone would blame you for providing a screenshoot from their software or its output. :)

As a programmer I would only be happy to see a screenshoot from my software.

And remember Mozilla is free, they would only be happy for the ad. If you really feel bad about this just put a link back to www.mozilla.org :)
