Hello,

I am a webmaster that has a $29.99 per month hosting plan that experiences about 1000 MB of data tranfser a month. According The site also experiences unplanned and unwanted downtime nearly everyday. For this reason and because of an unknowledgeable customer service crew, my client is shopping around.

Knowing that Worlcom is a tier one provider and Verio is not, I am considering both companies as options.

Do you have any suggestions ?

Are there any other options besides Worldcom for tier one or Verio for a lower tier ... perhaps, Sprintlink or AT&T?

Thanks for taking the time to read this message!

$30 a month for 1 GB of transfer?!?!??! For that price, the hosting company should come and wax your car at least once a month.

You can find cheaper - and reliable - for much less than $30 a month.

Do some research, ask questions and check references.

You've mentioned how much bandwidth(transfer) the site uses but what other specs do you need? eg. space, mailboxes, subdomains etc.

$30 for a simple site with only a 1 gig transfer is too much. I agree with Tina. Either ask for a wax or 2 handwash jobs for your car.

You don't really need a dedicated (private) server for a small site, not that you can't get one if your client wishes to of course. :)

I'd recommend posting in the advertising forum and mention what you need exactly and you'll get some offers. Do some research, then come back and ask for opinions as to whether anyone has had any experience with those hosts.

Hope that helps. :D

Tina and Jonathan,

I was hoping someone had experience with Worldcom or Verio and could provide feedback. I will do a bit more research per your suggestions. Thanks for you input! :)

Verio is a tier 1 company. They have one of the fastest and most reliable networks of all tier 1 companies.

I would go with www.iserver.com if you want one of their virtual private servers. Same company but lower prices.

The extra money spent by hosting with Verio is worth it for the speed, reliability, peace of mind, etc.

Ask for opinions on Verio's technical support responsiveness.

...just a thought. :P"

Just a question for you... If the site only uses 1000 MB of bandwidth per month, what features of a Tier1 provider do you need?

To save you money along with perhaps getting more personalized support, you might want to choose a host that is on dedicated servers from these "Tier1" providers.

Good luck finding a host for your client's site. :)

Sorry, I don't have any experiences from either company although I have heard good things about Verio. For only 1 gig of transfer a month you can get a lot cheaper. Shop around and look for a company that will provide you with the best service.
