Hi guys/girls,

I have 3 hosts which im using for my websites, all with virtual hosting accounts. Im looking at getting a dedicated server but im unsure what I should be looking for (please no offers, I have found the host) but im not sure which cpu/ram I need.

I do a lot of php/mysql work and 90% of my sites use a mysql database. I get around 20 gigs traffic a month at the moment but that will increase to 100/200 gigs over the coming weeks.

My main website will be somewhat like a very small version of yahoo/google in the form of a SE script -- Users Network (http://www.users.com.au) which is in testing stages atm.

The specs im looking at are

P4 2.4ghz
1GB ddr ram
80BG HD

Any information on which specs I should look would be great. Thanks.

Generally, as with most cases the more ram the better. If you can comfortably afford more ram, by all means go for it.

However, every server has different needs, and only you can determine what you need more of. If you have only 512, but it serves your purposes quite fine, then don't bother to upgrade. However, if you have 1G and you think that your server's performance is suffering because you need more ram, then go a step higher.

20G traffic a month should more than be covered by the specs you currently are looking at, though no one can really say this for sure because your scripts may be intensive.
