do you know which forum is the most server friendly in terms of resources (cpu+memory etc.)?

I'm still unsure if I should
buy vbulletin
or get phpbb

any experience with them?

p.s. the forum I'm running is quite small... all together it makes (i guess) as much traffic as the thread "general conversation" of WHT

I would use vBulletin - I even have one forum with 20GB bandwidth/month on a small shared account...

This has been discussed a lot in this forum :D

VBulletin has a lot more featues than phpBB. OTOH, phpBB is free.

Peformance and server load wise, they are prob. about the same.

So it will prob. boil down to your budget.
