Hi all. To those who use this software: how do you like it?

Thanks.

I use it for some time now and I must say that I like it very much

It has all the features to let customers manage their account and for the business it can be highly customized.

One downside though is that there is no implementation (yet) for cc processing

It looks like the modernbill of my dreams (simple, NO interface bloat).

I don't think it's ready to take on ModernBill, but it sure makes PhpManager look like the baby toy that it is...

PHPcoin is pretty good :) Used it before. Not very complicated either.

I wouldnt trust it if you plan on having a large client base anytime soon. It looks like the code is a little shoddy.

I am currently basing my new website on it. It will replace my phpManager setup.

I've found this to be true of a lot of popular scripts unfortunately.

Assuming you have used it and personally looked at the code?

I think its great, I had the older version installed and have installed the newer version today so still checking out what I can do with that ;)
I would recommend it to anyone looking for a script of the like.

I agree. Great script, with lots of support.

I started using this, and there were a few things I thought were missing, and posted on the phpCOIN forums about it. A few days later what I had asked for was included it the new version!

UH-Matt: Care to expand?

Being somewhat of a perfectionist, I'm afraid to look too far into any script because I always find something I would do differently.

For example, after just looking at the phpcoin database structure, I noticed it splits the users into seperate tables. My preference would be to have admins and clients in the same table and just have an additional field to designate access level. That way everyone can login the same way and more access levels can be created so that moderators/technicians or someone else between admin and client can be created.

I think phpcoin has a good start though. Good enough that I've installed it a few days ago and am currently reviewing it for functionality. I'm sure I can provide other suggestions for improvement, as I could with almost any script, if you're interested.

Yep, i got the script when it just came out, middleground was very helpful, but at the end i decided i dont need PHPCoin yet, but i still have it installed :D

I'll use it when he comes out with few more updates and some new skins  Not saying the current 1 is bad, just have to edit it a bit :)

I completely disagree. The more records in a table the longer it takes to retrieve those records. I think you're too MUCH of a perfectionist :D :stickout:.

Actually you can ask for more, you just have to pay for it. For instance if you want to have a proper recurring billing function you can't use PHPCoin.

Covers all the paylinks on your site :)

After all- recurring function with 2CO is just a matter of the link, right?

Try it out and see.
The purpose of billing software is to control you accounting not just have an automatic sign up feature on your site. Linking to payment processors and having true automatic rebilling for you accounting are entirely different.

why doe it matter.. If i sign up with paypal and have it set to recurring button link from paypal, they take care of it and provide me with reports I need. So for a beginner looking for a free script does it matter that much?

I have an older script version and the only thing I dont like is I havnt been able to get the script to automatcially set up accounts for me after payment verification... I have to manually do it. I am looking at using nixt to set up an account for me after payment received but I have to build a gateway between the 2 programs for it to work.

I havent used 2co or anyone else, so I cant speak on those cc

Does it allow for automated signup of hosting accounts? (yet..)

I saw it back in first version, got all excited about the possibilities... posted some suggestion and got a lame response.

I think I asked about multiple items or something...

middleground
06-27-2003, 02:04 PM
No -does not create your hosting accounts. Sorry for the lame response.

no worries, I'm very easily flustered and frustrated when code doesn't grovel at my feet...

I have tinkered with it before. Its very messy, but if I can find my way around, I'll probally write an Authorize.NET addon to include reccuring billing, but I doubt it because security for one thing, I don't trust something that I haven't written top to bottom.

All it really needs is a cc proccesser and it would be perfect. Best free one ive seen.
