Hi all, new member, first post.
I have gone thru all the posts and cannot find an answer to my problem.
here goes:
I have a domain name parked with my registrar, no hosting, just parked.
I am a reseller for a hosting company and also resell domains for enom. I would like to setup personal name servers (ns1, etc) using the domain that I have parked.
I need 2 IP numbers to do this.
My hosting provider doesn't offer this, my hosting reseller program doesn't offer this and my registrar doesn't offer this.
Where can I get 2 IPs at.
I can set up my personal name servers at my registrar if I have 2 IPs I just need the numbers from somewhrere.
thanks,
robert adams

Welcome to wht Robert :wavey:

You need to switch toa host that *does* offer private nameservers (check the reseller forum for some threads on good hosts).

Your host is the one that provides you with the IPs to use as your nameservers.

When you get these IPs go into your registrar's control panel and register the name servers (after you've set them up on your server of course ;)).

You don't have to have unique IP's anymore to setup name servers (although preferable) at most registrars. You or your host will have to add the new name servers to the DNS record and you can set them up at you registrar.

thanks for the replies, the thing is, I don't have the domain I want to use hosted anywhere and don't want to have a hosting account for it. I just want to use the domain name for my personal name servers. Is this possibe.?
thanks,
robert

You don't have to use the domain for anything but it will have to be setup on the server. How else could anyone find ns1.yourdomain.com?

OK guys, I think I got it now.
the name has to be set up with a hosting company in order to use it for name servers. Even if I don't want web space, emails, etc. I will still have to pay for a hosting account.
thanks,
robert
