View Full Version : Help! I've been victimized by a host!!! Anyone from secured-net?
yuffie123 07-17-2001, 09:12 PM I signed up at http://www.secured-net.net roughly about a week ago. I already gave them my credit card number and all, and I also got the invoice but up until now I have not gotten any account info!!! I've been mailing their sales and support departments but no one bothers to respond!
What's more, their billing cycle is automatic!!! It automatically bills every quarter!! This is like the WORST mistake in my whole online life ;_;
Help!!!
creepcolony 07-17-2001, 09:28 PM request a chargeback
SoftWareRevue 07-17-2001, 09:45 PM The problem is that durn automatic billing thing.
Your credit card company should be able to help you with that though.
:D
yuffie123 07-17-2001, 10:25 PM Here's the problem: those secured-net people won't even answer ANY of my mails so I can request stuff till I'm blue in the face but it won't do me any good.
Watch out for secured-net.net!!! http://www.secured-net.net
NewonNet 07-18-2001, 01:52 AM Good luck on getting your money back.
My guess is that you'll have to do a chargeback with your card issuer.
JBIZ718 07-18-2001, 01:58 AM Ive talked with the people over there before and they seem like there working hard.
I would like to see there defense in this case, but it doesnt sound good.

edude 07-18-2001, 02:04 AM I find it very hard to believe you that securednet did this to you, they are a very reputable company and i know the owner hes a great person!
yuffie123 07-18-2001, 04:07 AM Then maybe someone who knows those people can tell them to respond to all my mails ;_;
It's been a week since I received there invoice and there's now word from them. No decency to even respond ;_;
Have you tried calling them?
Chicken 07-18-2001, 04:27 AM Hmmmm... SecNet had been a somewhat regular at the chat site, I know I've said hello to him recently there, though I can't recall when the last time he came on exactly. Seems odd that he wouldn't return an email though. Somewhat disturbing I'm sure, and I'm ot sure what to tell you. Will bring the thread to his attention next time he pops on though...

Here's where the old questions comes in.
When you selected your web host, did you bother to check to see if they have a phone number where they can be reached? Did you try calling before signing up?
Was your call answered?
Do your homework folks!
rockergrrl 07-18-2001, 06:41 AM Kinda scary if you do a traceroute on his domain... He's on a DSL circuit via Mindspring... aka his "NOC" is located in his bedroom.
Word to the wise before you jump into anything that involves hosting... Always do a traceroute on the host - you'll uncover many a thing abou them...
Just my 2 cents... :)
iVersit 07-18-2001, 07:34 AM honestly, you should call them, seeing as how their TOLL FREE number is on EVERY PAGE.
mlovick 07-18-2001, 07:36 AM If you can get the registered office address of the company then it may be a good idea to send a land mail that needs to be signed for.
This may help any future legal case and will also guarantee that he will open it and read it (the curiosity of a special delivery).
If the company is taking credit cards then one must assume that he has passed credit checks himself (no bank gives a merchant account to non status clients) therefore you can send the letter via his bank (extreme but its been done).
Good luck :)
MattF 07-18-2001, 07:43 AM Bin you card. Report it stolen. Then when you get your new card, request a chargeback on the old card (credit will be applied to new card).
DHWWnet 07-18-2001, 08:19 AM I think Secured-Net is a regular at the HostHideout.com chat site (http://www.hosthideout.com)
Also, he lives like a few miles from where we live :)
He is from the surf city of san clemente, cali. , so he's probably surfing the waves NOT the web :D
peachtreewebworks 07-18-2001, 08:20 AM Not sure if you posted the correct URL, www.secured-net.net , but if you did - bad news: The domain can not be located via DNS at all right now :( .
I'd follow the other's advice and just write 'em off. Call your credit card company to request a new card # and a charge-back. Its very routine for the banks and should not be a problem.

yuffie123 07-18-2001, 10:01 AM The toll free numbers won't do me any good coz I am not even in the United States ;_;
They were using a third party billing called paysystems.com and my friend told me I can request a chargeback from there.

I was the one who referred her to secured-net.net because I had good experiences with s-net.
And you're right, it was odd that they never answered her email, not even when I was already trying to contact them for her myself.
I don't know what's happening at s-net, because lately my sites have always been down as well. They've used to be very helpful, and they always reply to me on the dot. The recent email exchange (support) I've had with them was just before yuffie123 signed up.
btw, when you dial a toll free number from our country, yuf, it's 001-800...
avara 07-18-2001, 08:08 PM Note well that when you dial a toll free number using 001-800, you will be charged at international rates. Depending on where you live, that means the call will cost you between 4 and 50 cents per minute.

I think your misunderstanding what a chargeback is. When a company charges your card and you didn't receive the goods or services promised you are entitled to a refund. If they don't do the right thing and give you a refund after they have been notified then the next thing you may do is request a chargeback.
The chargeback request is done through your credit card company. If you have a Bank of America Visa card you call Bank of America and request a chargeback. The credit card provider’s number is always on the back of the card.
Before performing a chargeback you should inform them that you will be performing a chargeback if a refund isn't issued. That will usually get the provider to refund the money if they were hesitant to before but if they still refuse then you just request it from your credit card company and they will honor your request. The only way that the chargeback wouldn't go through is if you signed a contract promising to pay for the service provided. Then it gets a bit more complicated.
yuffie123 07-18-2001, 08:54 PM Due to the absence of any form of response from secured-net.net for the past week, I decided to e-mail their biller - paysystems.com
I explained the whole situation to them and thank goodness they are totally unlike secured-net.net! They immediately responded to my mail and assured me that any pending transactions I have with secured-net.net will be cancelled and anything charged to my card in relation to them will be refunded.
I hope my unpleasant experience w/ secured-net.net will help others looking for host.
Lesson: if it sounds to good to be true, it probably is!!!
I was blinded by secured-net.net's $2.95 a month offer for unlimited bandwidth.
Guess I was naive...

I sincerely hope you guys at Secured-net are going to be ok by tomorrow. I thought you guys were goners! I've always had good support from you so I'd find it awfully sad if I'd have to transfer to yet another host (and I might end up with somebody like T*c*d)
:eek:
I also feel a little bad that the only two sites I've referred to you (otakuboard.com and animetric.net) are thinking of leaving because of this crisis :bawling: . Anyways, I don't think I can move hentaineko.com anyday now so I guess if tomorrow your servers will be up, I'd still stay.
yuffie123 07-19-2001, 06:25 AM Secured-net.net could have at least had the basic decency to answer one of my numerous mails to their sales and support departments. That gave me an idea of what kind of customer service I can expect.
I was a paying customer, and a supposedly first-time client of theirs. With a horrid experience like this I think I have no choice but to look for another alternative.
skysenshi 07-19-2001, 06:57 AM The question now is where to find a decent adult host that doesn't charge too much... and doesn't require a yearly contract. (You could seriously hurt yourself if you signed a yearly contract with a host you hardly know).
:confused:

It's not like I dunno how to call them, just that I don't wanna pay overseas bills for something that's their damned fault.
skysenshi 07-19-2001, 10:03 PM what time is it in the States? Secured-net.net hasn't gone up yet...
yuffie123 07-20-2001, 12:33 AM It actually depends what state they are in... but somehow, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for them...

The owners of Otakuboard.com (I'm just one of them) want to know if the database of their forum can still be salvaged.
I've already emailed you regarding hentaineko.com, which I still want to retain with you (hopefully this time everything will be ok).
