I'mmmmmm baaaaackkkkkkkkk!

I've had no working computer for the past 7 days or so... couldn't surf the net, couldn't come to WHT, couldn't do any work... the list goes ON and ON and ON!

Here's a list of problems that I had to deal with in the past week, its not life threatening or anything.. just threated my lifestyle as a 'technology loving' guy :)

1. Hard drive fails - everything on my former hard drive disappeared and couldn't even get the friggin comp to recognize the drive anymore... This was a WD hard drive

2. Ordered New Maxtor HD - gets on back order list as SOON as I order it. So, hard drive gets here couple days short...

3. After I install HD and Win2k, cable light goes out on my toshiba cable modem! Amazingly enough, this was almost about the time I installed the drivers of my NIC card... how coincidental...

4. Call RR to get cable fixed, they said the earliest they can come out for a service call is tuesday (today).

5. Bought a new 12x10x32 CDRW and the day after, the price goes down from the online retailer that I bought it from...

6. RR comes today and fixes my connection (mind you, i didn't have internet for the past 4 days - through the friggin weekend!)

7. I bought a stick of 256MB PC133 memory for $49 and I get online to check the status of the order, and look! an email saying that it won't be shipped until 7-10 days cause back ordered!

8. FINALLY, I can't find all the CDs I need... all my software that are dear to me like Flash and Photoshop! I was surprised I found the Win2k CD I used to install the OS!

Wish me luck ladies and gents... I'm on a very long tragic journey here... hope I don't have to buy another copy of Photoshop - cause that thing costs $$$$$!

so, whats going on here at WHT? alot of changes since i was last here! guess WHT finally got a dedicated server :)

hmmm, oh yea...

forgot to mention that I'm going to be building a new comp in a couple days...

hope all these problems that I had to face in the past week isn't serving as a foreshadowing to any comp problems in the future ;) :D

OMG. I was typing in the air for the 12 hours w/o electricity we had. How did you survive? Did you have a laptop? hehe. You seem to be having about the same luck I'm having with getting a laptop. Dell's deals suck. All the good ones are for the Home/Home Office users which don't include win2k for an operating system. Gotta go to the small business section for that where instead of free shipping, a nylon case, and a free upgrade to dvd or cd-rw, you get free shipping and double the memory. Anyway... I wrote them a short 8 paragraph note discussing my dislikes about their deals between the two. Home users should have a choice between win2k and Win(help)ME.

Buying all the parts to my new computer was basically an every other item on backorder ordeal. Frustrating, but that's the way life deals out the cards. Maybe Ms. Cleo can give you some advice on where to buy from next time.

That doesn't sound like a fun week, for sure. :)

At least you found your Windows CD, because I can't find mine for weeks, or maybe I gave it to someone.
None of my friends have any working CD's. I'm out of luck, can't format my HD. :bawling:

I'd also recommend keeping all your application install cds in one place.

This is something that I have learned the hard way myself. I stopped looking for my Win98SE cd when I upgraded to Win2K. Now if only I could find my Photoshop cd...

Everything disappear from HDD!! - that's enough to kill.

Cable modem not working - No way! time to dig out my spare 56K.. oh yeah better keep it in a safe place just in case

Can't find the CDs i needed, especially if OS - never from today, i'll burn a few copies and keep at several random places

Poor alpha..

hehe, i found my Win2k CD behind the computer desk...

who knows how it got there, but the weirder part is that I knew where to find it! :)

now, the photoshop box is completely empty... not even the serial! i know when i bought it, i put it in a "safe place" but the problem now is... gotta figure out what my idea of 'safe place' was at THAT time...

Looks like your stuffs are all over and mess up, probably you need a spring cleaning. Emm.. didn't you think of it during your week without computer? :stickout Just my 2 cents, my room is worst and i trying to remind myself that

lol no...
i brought out an old Pentium I 133mhz 16mb comp from the closet and started to mess with it...

found out that it had a spare HD which was in perfect condition... had time to install and play around with redhat and mandrake...

it was slow as turtle cause it only had 16mb (the xwindow was anyways)....

the thought of spring cleaning didn't even occur to me... im moving my stuff out in less then a month anyways, so i thought; whats the point!? :D

anyone know how i can reload all my emails?
i save the dbx files for outlook daily and want to know if that was enough to reload all my email as before my old HD became unusable

thanks

Did you try to paste the .dbx files to:
C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Outlook Express ?

I'm not sure, but I think that's how I did it before. :uhh:
