I have a client that wants to send a email to a fax machine. E.g. He recieves orders via email and wants them faxed to him for processing so he doesn't need to check his email.

To add another issue into this, he runs a online shopping mall so different email addresses at the same domain need to go to different fax numbers.

We are not based in the USA so can't use standard fax gateways.

What would people recommend to solve this problem?

My basic idea was setting up a server to check a catchall at the domain which then filters through the to addresses and sends to corrosponding fax number. Would software like this exist? Could I get it made? And what are better ideas?

Thanks in advance

Hope I got the right forum, apologies if wrong.

Do a google search on "email to fax gateway".

You'll get lots of results.

Plug in a modem to a linux server and I believe their is a perl module that enables you to send faxes.

all you need is a modem, telephone line and linux box... sorted!

We put in the fax sending portion of "mgetty+sendfax" when 8 years ago we decided to start automatically sending reports out from our lab system. Since all our report printers are laserjets, we convert pcl output adding in the form then send it. Works pretty well (8 years with 1 recompile when we moved from HPUX 9.04 to 64bit 11 - something like 200,000 faxes last I checked). We don't need fax reception so mgetty wasn't required fo us.

You'd have to build the parsing of email part but sendfax can handle the sending part for you.
