Hey folx,
So, I am working on my new educational site, which I've started on a new host. This host (which I won't mention, because things may yet be worked out to my satisfaction) claims to host PostgreSQL databases. For the purposes of this thread, just accept that I want Postgres, not MySQL.
Now, it's really hard these days to find a decent host with PostgreSQL, so that was the MAIN factor in choosing the host I chose.
I go to set up the db, and have all kinds of problems. Yesterday, I e-mailed support, asking what's up. I am, after all, a new customer; maybe there's something I'm missing.

Today I got the following e-mail:

"We will need to forward this off to our head designer, I'm not 100% sure if we have this feature fully running yet. "

Grr.

This was the one feature I really wanted!

I don't want to say who this is, because this is still up in the air; maybe it's my fault.

But if not, do I have grounds for a rebate/refund? I paid a certain amount of money with the expectation of getting certain services. Seems to me there's a contractual obligation on their part. I've been without that db for a week.

Should I get money back (or a reduced rate for this month)? Assuming it's their fault, that is.

Thanks in advance for all advice,

Seems to me if they told you they have a feature but they really don't you are not out of line to cancel and want a refund.

OTOH, if they do have the feature just not setup right on your account, problems do occur sometimes.
