I was with them for a while via a reseller. I had a lot of problems with the reseller, but relatively few with CI.

BUT! Apparently their billing department is a mess, and I was fortunate enough to go through the reseller's billing dept and not CI.

Actually, now I think about it, there was a lot more downtime than I would have liked. Sometimes for 1 day + at a time.

In agree that traceroute is good for figuring out what host someone is using, but some companies may use more than one. They might host their main informational site with a different company than they use for a web app or the site of one of their divisions.

Of course, as others have said, those could be former customers...

I wonder if those companies listed in the e-mail know that their names are being linked to a disreputable host?
If not, perhaps they would like to know.

Of course that's always possible...but I have trouble believing that GTE, which is owned by Verizon -- a company that has it's own hosting division, hosts any part of their site with *****.

I could be wrong...but it is still suspect.

Hey all,

I'm just wondering if anyone has ever tried to get them to beat a deal or get $1000.

I tried once, about 1 month ago. I called up ***** on the phone, and asked them to beat a web host who offered 1500mb of space and 20 gigs transfer per month for 19.95 per month.

They told me to email a person that takes care of "price matching", so I did.

Well, I did everything they told me to, sent numerous emails to this person, and 1 month later, still no response. So is this another attempt to look good in the hosting biz, while they are only actually trying to advertise things they cannot deliver?

Help me out here.. i wanna see if someone can actually see if they will match or beat the price.

Regards,
Nick

The only reason that a co. offers so much for so less is that they don't expect their users to use that much, only a slight fraction of it. Therefore, the co. could then rollover the unused bandwidth/space to another client.

Maybe it's just me but I'd be very wary of such hosts who offer such 'attractive and unbelievable' plans.
