Help! My site is huge and consumes a lot of bandwidth (don't know how much but it's a lot and growing).
I have been asked to leave about 4 sites now because of bandwidth or transfer rate.
I even asked my current one in advance whether it would be a problem and now, six months later it is, and he won't fix it or give me a refund (I paid a year in advance :( Don't use featureprice.com !

Anyway I pretty much need a web hosting company that will supply unlimited space and bandwidth, or very high bandwidth and at least 3000 mg space. And no transfer rate problems with using Frontpage to edit remotely!

I also need Frontpage extensions, pop email, not to many other requirements that I can think of...

Please help if you know of a good one! Remember that if the site says "unlimited bandwidth", read the small print as most still have limitations. A dedicated server would be good, too. I don't really want to spend over $150 a month, though.

I have already used: hispeed.com, apollohosting.com, featureprice.com, and another one whose name I can't think of right now....they were the worst so I must be blocking it.

Thanks,

Get-Hosted.com

Giving a # in bandwidth would really help. Anyway you can find that?

Yes, do stay away from unlimited. I am suprised you are looking for another unlimited host, as you have probably been kicked from other for using "too many system resources!" Find out how much bandwidth you have been using and have been so we can see how much you grow and then we can help you find the best company/plan to fit your needs.

Althought bandwidth is the primary concern, a hosting package with 3000MB space isn't that easy to come by (usually custom plan), my suggestion is;
1) Find out your bandwidth requirement, ask for a custom quotation, post it on the advertising forum.
2) Consider a low cost delicated cobalt server host that provide enough bandwidth to support all your sites.

For sites needing LOTS of bandwidth transfer www.tera-byte.com is hard to beat!
Also, if you sign up there and later decide to get your own dedicated server, they can help with that too.
Reasonably priced!

I would say you should probably just start with a dedicated server. You can get them from Rackshack (http://www.rackshack.net) starting at $99.

Wow...trying to manage 3 gigs of data with FrontPage :shudder:

I found out it's over 6 gb (don't know the exact number because that's where they cap it).

Yes, I am looking into a dedicated server option as well.

I will look into tera-byte.com and rackshack.net, thanks!

Hey, I'm managing over 6 gb of data with Frontpage! It's not a bad program, much-maligned by people who don't like Microsoft.

yes you should use a dedicated server, 4webspace.com has great prices

if you use 6gb bandwidth a month, dedicated isn't necessary

Avoid http://www.secured-net.net like the plague! Try http://www.amhosting.com that's where my main site is hosted. They have plans that can have up to 8Gbs of badnwidth and prices are reasonable.

"I'm managing over 6 gb of data with Frontpage!"

Are you saying that you have 6 gigs of data on the server or that the site uses 6 gigs of transfer per month. The former is huge and would probably be better on a dedicated server. The latter is no big deal and could be handled with a shared hosting account.

Thanks for all the great web hosting recommendations, wow! Getting some good offers in email, too.

Let me clarify that I'm going OVER 6 gb of bandwidth per month. I don't know what the actual amount of bandwidth is. That's where Featureprice.com, the web hosting company, limits the bandwidth. Seeing as how it's only halfway through the month of July and I've already reached the limit, it is probably well over twice that.

For the person who was wondering why I made the comment about 6 GB of data with Frontpage, I was replying to someone else who was amazed that I was doing that. I was talking about bandwidth. The pages are probably about 4000 mg (I haven't actually finished loading some of the site up, including many graphics that I thought had been ftp'ed over but didn't make it). That's just a guess. It's actually three very large sites.

I wouldn't think I'd need a dedicated server, either, but I've moved my page about 5 or 6 times since October, and every time has been either because of "transfer" or "bandwidth"; the companies said that I was exceeding their requirements. These were the only ones I'd been able to find that had unlimited space and claimed to have unlimited bandwidth. Usually the largest amount of space web hosting companies say they will have is 500-750 mg, and my sites well exceed that, so that's why I look for "unlimited". Also my site is constantly growing in size so I really did want unilimited, rather than have to cut it down at some future point.

As you have already learned, going with an unlimited host is counter productive. There is no such thing....

I think there is a unlimited amound of times that our goverment will keep taking money out of my paychecks...

While it's true that I've never yet found "unlimited" bandwidth, there are plenty of places that offer unlimited space. I have three really large sites and have never had any hosting provider complain about the amount of space they take up. On the other hand, if they weren't so big, bandwidth probably wouldn't be an issue, either....kind of a catch 22. I've also seen sites that say "unlimited bandwidth" but have a limit on space. Sure, when you limit the space, the bandwidth may not be a problem. The more pages there are for people to go to, the more bandwidth it takes up.

Have a look at M6.net's plans ..they offer you 56 Gb of transfer with a generous space ...

Worldzonepro.com offers 156 GB transfer and 4680 MB space for $128 monthly. There is no sign-up form for it yet - you have to email one of the admins (alycia@worldzone.net) to order the account.

I say, quit delaying the inevitable, and get your own dedicated server. Then you won't have to go through the rigors of transferring your site every few months. Sure you will haver to initially pay more money, but aren't you wasting a lot of time and resources getting your site setup too often.

How many pages does your site contain? I looked at your site -- seems like an awful lot of space for a relatively simple site (meaning, no funky scripts).

I don't know how many files we have, I gave up figuring that out a long time ago :) Hundreds. And tens of thousands of images and many movies and sounds. It's not just http://www.tvmegasite.net (that's the big bandwidth hog) but also suzann.com and soapsgirl.org (both are big but not as popular).
You need to spend more time going through the site, LOL

And yes, I am sick and tired of moving the sites so often!! I am probably going to sign up with rackspace.net, they seem to have the best deal so far that I can see, for dedicated servers. That $250 signup fee could be better but I don't see any deal as good as theirs.

As for the suggestions people have been making via both email and this thread...I thank you. Even though most of them have been either too expensive or didn't offer what I needed. It's the thought that counts.
